3 What is GLEEM? The Grade Level Expectations Educational Model (GLEEM) is a high-quality professional development (online and face-to-face) relative to the effective implementation of the Grade Level Expectations in the core content areas.

4 Purpose of GLEEM Designed to: Provide participants with a deeper understanding of the GLEs and the state comprehensive curriculum; Enable participants to deepen their understanding of effective instructional practices by exploring research-based strategies and instructional resources;

5 Purpose of GLEEM Designed to: Broaden participants’ knowledge of standards, benchmarks, GLEs, and technology by applying them in the development of standards-based lessons and assessments; and Explore the potential of learning communities as they relate to professional development and student learning through collaborative learning experiences.

6 GLEEM Overview GLEEM consists of 5 learning modules Delivered in both face-to-face and online formats Modules may be taken as a series or standalone (module 1 is a prerequisite) Each module will consist of learning experiences that focus on discrete topics (or series of topics )  Reflective Readings  Research-based Strategies  Curriculum Resources  Enrichment activities

7 GLEEM Modules Module 1: GLEs: An Introduction Module 2: Effective Classroom Practices Module 3: Enhancing a Standards-Based Lesson Plan Module 4: Effective Assessment Practices Module 5: Making the GLE Connection

8 GLEEM Modules Online Format  2-weeks in length  Facilitated by an experienced online instructor Face-to-Face Format  Range from 1-2 days in length  Face-to-Face facilitator/trainer

9 Benefits of GLEEM Earn CLUs upon successful completion of module CLUs applied toward relicensure and NCLB HOUSSE requirements Online modules valued at 8 CLUs Face-to-Face modules vary in CLUs ranging from 8 to 16 Districts give final approval of the awarding of CLUs

16 GLEEM Timeline Fall 2004 Development of GLEEM modules Spring 2005 GLEEM Beta Test (online and f2f) GLEEM Field Test (online and f2f) Summer 2005 Statewide Implementation (online and f2f)

17 Implementation Design Face-to-Face Model Beta Test  Targeted select groups of Elementary, Middle, and High schools; teachers and facilitators across grade level/content areas  Each will beta test at least one module  Conducted January—March 2005  Stipend Provided

18 Implementation Design Face-to-Face Model Field Test  Application Process (deadline March 11th)  Completion of all 5 modules (April 13-May 11th)  Serve as module trainer during summer statewide pilot  Stipend provided

19 Implementation Design Face-to-Face Model Statewide Pilot (District Teams Only)  Application Process (deadline March 25th)  Targeting District Teams 1—District GLE Coordinator 1—Elementary Specialist 1—Special Education Specialist 4—Middle/High School Specialist  ELA  Math  Science  Social Studies  Show a demonstrated need in the area of GLEs and Comprehensive Curriculum  Pilot all 5 modules

21 Application Process Face-to-Face Model Download from LDE site (www.louisianaschools.net)  Follow Guidelines carefully  LDE team will review all applications submitted Deadline to apply for Field Test (March 11th) Notification of participation in Field Test (March 29th) Deadline to apply for Statewide Pilot (March 25th) Notification of participation in Statewide Pilot (April 18th)

22 Implementation Design Online Model Beta Test  Targeted select group of teachers (cross grade level/content areas)  Completion of 3 modules  Conducted January – March 2005  Stipend provided

23 Implementation Design Online Model Field Test  Application Process (deadline March 11 th )  Completion of all 5 modules (Apr. 13 th – May 11 th )  Serve as online instructor during summer statewide pilot  Stipend provided

27 Implementation Design Online Model Special Training  Designed to build LDE and district/school capacity relative to GLEs and the state Comprehensive Curriculum  Targets RESC staff, Distinguished Educators (DEs), Reading First staff, LINCS Coordinators, etc.  Training Conducted July 13 th – August 17th  Exploring the possibility of mini-grants
