2 KING DAVID HISTORY : Israel was struggling under the leadership of king Saul. Saul was no longer God’s chosen leader for Israel and his mental state was deteriorating. David had been successful in battle against the Philistines, killing Goliath, and the people of Israel were celebrating David as a mighty warrior. Saul hatched a plan to kill David because he knew that the kingdom had already been given to David. David fled with several men who were considered outcast to the land of the Philistines. David continued to run from Saul hiding in caves in the desert. Saul continues to hunt David but ends up dying in battle by taking his own life. Then the people of Israel come to find David and ask him to be king.
