6 IEQ – Indoor Environmental Quality Prerequisite 1, Minimum IAQ Performance Intent: Establish minimum IAQ performance to enhance indoor air quality in buildings, thus contributing to the comfort and well- being of occupants. Requirements: Meet the minimum requirements of ASHRAE Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Quality.

7 Reference Standard – ASHRAE 62.1, Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality Calculations – none Submittal – Provide: Design narrative describing project’s ventilation design. If mechanically ventilated – provide documentation showing project was design to comply with ASHRAE 62.1 If naturally ventilated – provide applicable project drawings showing naturally ventilated zones and the operable window areas. IEQ – Indoor Environmental Quality Prerequisite 1, Minimum IAQ Performance Strategies: active ventilation – mechanical ventilation (ex: fan on HVAC unit) passive ventilation – natural ventilation (ex: windows and cross ventilation) mixed-mode ventilation – both mechanical and natural ventilation

8 IEQ – Indoor Environmental Quality Prerequisite 2, Environmental Tobacco Smoke Intent: Minimize exposure of building occupants, indoor surfaces, and ventilation air distribution systems to Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS).

9 If interior “smoking areas” - partitions must be deck to deck, no re-circulation of that return air (must exhaust to outside), and create a negative pressure with respect to surrounding rooms. Outdoor smoking areas must be 25’ from a building entrance, and away from operable windows and ventilation intakes. IEQ – Indoor Environmental Quality Prerequisite 2, Environmental Tobacco Smoke Requirements: Option 1 – Prohibit smoking in the building. Option 2 – Locate exterior designated smoking areas.

11 Intent: Provide capacity for ventilation system monitoring to help sustain occupant comfort and well-being. Requirements: Install permanent monitoring systems that provide feedback on ventilation system performance. Configure monitoring equipment to generate an alarm when conditions vary by 10% or more from setpoint. IEQ – Credit 1: Outdoor Air Delivery Monitoring

12 Mechanically ventilated - Install CO2 monitors in all densely occupied spaces (25+ people). Locate monitor 3’ – 6’ above the floor. Naturally ventilated – Monitor CO2 concentrations within all naturally ventilated (windows, doors, etc.) spaces. Locate monitor 3’ – 6’ above the floor. Reference Standard – none Calculations – none Submittal – Provide: Confirm type of ventilation system installed. Narrative describing project’s ventilation design & CO2 monitoring system. 13 Intent: Provide additional outdoor air ventilation to improve indoor air quality for improved occupant comfort, well-being, and productivity. Mechanically ventilated – Increase breathing zone outdoor air ventilation rates by 30% above minimum rates. Naturally ventilated – show design of natural ventilation system meets CIBSE (Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers) recommendation. IEQ – Credit 2: Increased Ventilation

This requires following the SMACNA Indoor Air Quality Guidelines for Occupied Buildings under Construction. IEQ – Credit 3.1 & 3.2: Construction IAQ Management Plan MERV 8 – construction (if you need to run the air) MERV 13 – just before occupancy EQ 3.2 Construction IAQ Management Plan: Before Occupancy This requires a building flush-out OR air quality testing after construction is complete.

VOC emissions from paints and coatings must not exceed the VOC and chemical component limits of Green Seal’s Standard GS-11 requirements (one point). Carpet systems must meet or exceed the requirements of the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) Green Label Indoor Air Quality Test Program (one point). Composite wood and agrifiber products must contain no added urea- formaldehyde resins (one point).
