8 “Exploration and Intervention for Health Equality…” Certificate in Health Disparities and Health Inequality Sponsoring Department Health Policy and Management Educational Objectives - To train future leaders in research on health disparities and health inequality - To train individuals for leadership in health policy and public health practice on the underlying causes of health inequality - To prepare public health professionals in known solutions for health disparities and health inequality Intended Audience Students enrolled in any graduate degree program (masters and doctoral) at Johns Hopkins University (all divisions). Admissions Criteria Admission into the program may be granted to any student pursuing a graduate degree at Johns Hopkins. Applicants must submit a letter addressed to the faculty sponsor outlining their career objectives and how the certificate program will enhance those objectives.

9 “Exploration and Intervention for Health Equality…” Certificate in Health Disparities and Health Inequality Course of Study Students are required to take the following course: -Seminar in Health Disparities (4 unit - 4th term) and -Participate in the Health Disparities Journal Club, sponsored by the Center for Health Disparities Solutions (all terms) and earn 8 or more units from the following list of courses: -The Political Economy of Social Inequality and Its Consequences of Health and Quality of Life (3 units - 3rd term) -Health, Poverty and Public Policy (3 units - 1st term) -Health and Homelessness (3 units - 3rd term) -Human Rights for Public Health Practitioners (2 units - 3rd term) -Women’s Health (3 units - 3rd term) -Women’s Health Policy (2 units - 4th term) Requirements for Successful Completion Attendance at 75% of journal club meetings, and completion of all coursework with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 in the program courses. All courses must be taken for letter grade.
