3 US SOCCER D LICENSE I. Preparation Phase
Candidates are required to complete three (3) assigned training sessions, a Self Reflection on each session and an Online Concussions Course. II. Instructional Phase (14 to 18 hrs.) Candidates meet face-to-face with instructors at a course. III. Deliberate Practice Phase Candidates are required to complete three (3) assigned training sessions and a Self Reflection on each session, over a minimum of 10 weeks. IV. Performance Review Phase (14 to 18 hrs.) Evaluation weekend. Candidates have one full year following the completion of the deliberate practice phase to attend any performance review phase to complete the “D” course.

Prior to attending the course there are two (2) assignments you must complete. Pre-Course Assignments must be completed prior to the Instructional Phase. Concussion Assignment Candidates are required to complete Concussion Awareness. Once completed, print it out and bring it to the course. (US Soccer will also send Virginia Youth Soccer an updated list) Link: Concussion Awareness

Candidate Preparation Coaching Sessions Create and deliver three (3) lesson plans from the US Soccer D Practice Topics. One (1) Attacking One (1) Defending One (1) Goalkeeper Fill out a “Self Assessment” of each Practice. Candidates will meet face to face with VYSA Instructors Be prepared to participate in the classroom (paper, pen/pencil, tablet or computer) and on the field (soccer shoes, appropriate clothing for the weather, soccer ball). 7 US SOCCER D LICENSE: Deliberate Practice Phase
Candidate Deliberate Practice Coaching Sessions Create and deliver three (3) lesson plans from the US Soccer D Practice Topics. One (1) Attacking One (1) Defending One (1) Goalkeeper Fill out a “Self Assessment” of each Practice. Send in Sessions and Self-Assessment to VYSA (Jackie Burket, - identify which Evaluation Weekend you will attend. 8 US SOCCER D LICENSE: Performance Review Phase
Candidates will meet face to face with VYSA Instructors Final on-field evaluation. Be prepared to participate in the classroom (paper, pen/pencil, tablet or computer) and on the field (soccer shoes, appropriate clothing for the weather, soccer ball). Candidates have one full year following the completion of the deliberate practice phase to attend any Performance Review Phase to complete the “D” course. 9 US SOCCER D LICENSE: Frequently asked questions
Is there a waiver process which permits a candidate to bypass the “E” license and begin with a “D” course? As of January 1, 2013 waivers are no longer offered or allowed to bypass the “E” license and begin with a “D” license course. After earning an “E” license, is there a waiting period between the “E” and “D” courses? Applicants must show they have been “actively coaching” for a minimum of six (6) months. The active coaching period begins on the issue date of the “E” License. After earning a “D” license, is there a waiting period between the “D” and “C” courses? Applicants must show they have been “actively coaching” for a minimum of twelve (12) months. The active coaching period begins on the issue date of the “D” License.
