3 3 INTRODUCTION  UWB TECHNOLOGY HAS BEEN IN LIMITED USE FOR YEARS BY PUBLIC SERVICE, RESEARCH, AND MILITARY AGENCIES, PRIMARILY FOR IMAGING AND RADAR (PROBABLY GLOBALLY)  CONSUMER UWB DEVICES ARE BEING DEVELOPED FOR WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS AND OTHER APPLICATIONS, AND COULD BECOME WIDESPREAD
