7 6 Mission statement An agricultural research institute, that develops and disseminates appropriate agricultural technologies in collaboration with stakeholders. Contribute to the sustainable improvement in the livelihoods of Kenyan citizens by increasing agricultural productivity, post harvest value of agricultural and livestock products, and conserving the environment Proactively seeks to acquire ad contribute knowledge and creative solutions that are participatory; client oriented, holistic, system oriented, gender sensitive and affordable by users

8 7 Objectives Develop and validate appropriate technologies and knowledge 2. Develop and enhance appropriate participatory and consultative technology development approaches and methodologies 3. Disseminate knowledge and technologies and to catalyze the process of outreach and adoption of agricultural technologies 4. Contribute to and influence the development of Agricultural policy environment 5. Strengthen the efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability of KARIs Institutional capacity 6. Establish sustainable funding initiatives

9 8 KARI’s Broad Research Programme areas 1. Food Crops research (cereals, root and tuber, legumes, pulses, etc) 2. Horticultural and industrial crops research (flowers, vegetables, fruits, cotton, herbs, spices, etc) 3. Animal Production and range research (dairy, beef, pastures and folder, small ruminants, range ecology, etc) 4. Animal health research (all animal diseases) 5. Socio-economics and Biometrics (crop, livestock and Natural resources, impact assessment, priority setting, etc)
