CHRISTINA CROWLEY IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? A Study in Cheekbones: Becoming Sherlock Holmes This course would analyze the process an actor takes to become a famous literary character. More specifically, it would be a discussion of close reading--how do you determine an author's intent, the reliability of a character, and make it universally appealing? It would be taught by Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Sherlock Holmes in the BBC's "Sherlock.” He is an amazingly well-rounded man who has played a number of Shakespearean characters as well. He takes a well-known story and revives it to capture the interest of modern day audiences, which is a skill that anyone who wants to teach literature should know.  DEWEY B. STUIT FIRST YEAR SCHOLAR  ENGLISH CARLISLE, IA

MELINDA MARTIN IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? I would take a class taught by Dr. Atul Gawande, the author of "Complications" and "Better." The class, titled "The Complexities and Facets of Medical Practice," would address the challenges that arise in the daily practice of modern medicine and how best to care for patients within a complicated and difficult system.  DEWEY B. STUIT SECOND YEAR SCHOLAR  BIOCHEMISTRY & HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY DUNLAP, IL

Tarah DeSousa If you could take any course from anyone alive in the universe, what would the course be and who would teach it? I would want to take a course taught by Kurt Vonnegut and Charles Bukowski on how to write with poignant intensity --as they do in their writing. It would probably be a very difficult class and they would be bitingly harsh in their criticism of the students' work. I would expect nothing less from two of the greatest writers of my time, though. Learning to write in the style of my literary idols would drastically improve my writing technique and lend itself to a broadening of my style and voice as a writer. The title of the class would be "Life, Love, Death, Writing" and it would include analysis of Kurt and Charles' most famous works, as well as weekly assignments where the students would demonstrate their own versions of the two genius' pieces.  Rhodes Dunlap First Year Scholar  Journalism Cedar Rapids, IA

MELIA DUNBAR IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? Beginning Claymation, taught by Nick Park. This course would cover the fundamentals of clay animation – or "claymation“ – and the techniques used in stop motion videos. As the director of Creature Comforts and Wallace and Gromit, Nick Park would bring humor, experience, and creativity to the classroom.  RHODES DUNLAP FIRST YEAR SCHOLAR  NEUROBIOLOGY & ENGLISH MAJOR FROM SAN MATEO, CA

NATE HUA ARE YOU A NERD, GEEK, OR NEITHER? WHY? I would toats consider myself a geek. I absolutely love chemistry, acting, video games, Calvin & Hobbes, food, etc., etc., etc. I love eating nerds (the candy... I'm not a cannibal), and would consider myself one as well. I love learning and try to follow Socrates' philosophy to endlessly to pursue knowledge. While geek and nerd tend to have negative stigmas, I like to view it the other way--geeks and nerds are crucial in making the world go round. Geeks and nerds are stigmatized because others envy their intelligence. It's an honor to be considered a geek and nerd.  RHODES DUNLAP FIRST YEAR SCHOLAR  CHEMISTRY MAJOR FROM CEDAR FALLS, IA

RYAN KUNKLE ARE YOU A NERD, GEEK, OR NEITHER? WHY? I never really considered myself a nerd or a geek; it may have been that I never wore glasses. It's interesting that there is even a distinction between a geek and a nerd. The difference is probably that geeks are extremely "nerdy" in specific matters, while nerds have a disposition toward general "nerdiness." Disregarding this absurdity, I simply consider myself an intelligent, introspective democratic socialist. This should suffice to describe my personal and political philosophies. In fact, I don't really describe myself under any blanket terms unless they are political in nature. Whether or not I am perceived as a geek or nerd is irrelevant. I know I am disciplined, motivated, and loyal in all my pursuits, academic or otherwise.  RHODES DUNLAP FIRST YEAR SCHOLAR  HISTORY MAJOR FROM NEVADA, IA

RYAN PAPE ARE YOU A NERD, GEEK, OR NEITHER? WHY? All of the above! If being a nerd or a geek is being interested in something to extent of obsession or dare I say it, mastery, then well, that means you're really good at something. I think the concept of geek/nerd can actually extend beyond intellectualism. If you're really good at football, basketball, and gold, then perhaps, you are a sports geek. Being a nerd, being a geek, it just means that you love something and are really good at it. Which in the end, is what we all want from life, isn't it?  RHODES DUNLAP FIRST YEAR SCHOLAR  PSYCHOLOGY MAJOR FROM AURORA, IL

CRYSTAL TERMAN IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? I would love to take a class about epigenetics from Dawson Church. Ideally the course would cover the relevance of piezeolecetricity in medicine and the potential impact of epigenetics in medicine. I would basically want a class that would go over the topics he addresses in the book “The Genie in Your Genes”. That book was what piqued my interest in genetics and particularly epigenetics and was what led me to choosing my major and ultimately the University of Iowa.  RHODES DUNLAP FIRST YEAR SCHOLAR  GENETICS/BIOTECHNOOLOGY & PSYCHOLOGY MAJOR FROM CEDAR RAPIDS, IA

ANGELA WOJTCZAK IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? I would take a Contemporary Dance Class taught by Emmy winning choreographer Mia Michaels. I would learn different techniques, choreography, and how to tell stories through dance. I chose her because I have been inspired by many of her pieces on the show So You Think You Can Dance.  RHODES DUNLAP FIRST YEAR SCHOLAR  HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY MAJOR FROM ORLAND PARK, IL

ELAINE MOU ARE YOU A NERD, GEEK, OR NEITHER? WHY? I am a racemic mixture of geek and nerd. I play violin and piano and love classical music, make far too many biology references, and once skipped prom for a science competition. I also love video games to a somewhat shameful degree.  RHODES DUNLAP FIRST YEAR SCHOLAR  BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING MAJOR FROM WEST DES MOINES, IA

VALERIE RENKOR IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? I would love to take a class from Rebecca Skloot, the author of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. The course would use Skloot’s book and basically delve more deeply into topics addressed in it. The HeLa cell line, which was taken from Henrietta Lacks somewhat unethically, helped change the face of medicine and transform it into what it is today. I was fascinated with Skloot’s book and would love to learn more about HeLa.  RHODES DUNLAP FIRST YEAR SCHOLAR  CHEMICAL ENGINEERING MAJOR FROM HOMER GLEN, IL

ADAM ISHOLA IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? If given the possibility, I would take "Leadership 101” from NBA Hall-of-Fame coach, Phil Jackson. The course would explore leadership characteristics of modern leaders. We would examine today's leaders and their varying styles. I chose Phil Jackson because he, in my opinion, is the best basketball coach ever. He knows how to satisfy large egos, while still commanding respect; coached both Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, winning numerous championships. Jackson helped his teams reach their full potential--exactly what great leaders need to do."  RHODES DUNLAP SECOND YEAR SCHOLAR  ACCOUNTING & FINANCE MAJOR FROM WOODBURY, MN

BRETT KARLAN IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? “Philosophical Issues of Neuroscience” taught by Ned Block The course would cover the broad spectrum of questions that come about at the intersection of philosophy of mind and neuroscience, including the metaphysics of mind, issues of reduction and identification of mental states with neural states, and probably a foray into neuroethics. I chose Ned Block as the instructor for the simple fact that he seems to hold some sort of reductionistic identity theory of mind, and that position is incredibly fascinating to me.  RHODES DUNLAP SECOND YEAR SCHOLAR  BIOLOGY & PHILOSOPHY MAJOR FROM CEDAR RAPIDS, IA

PENELOPE MAKEIG IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? If I were to take any course from any one, it would be “Hogwarts and Beyond” with JK Rowling. In this course, Ms. Rowling would let you in on the secrets of her process as a writer and how to create a fictional world that sucks the reader in. She would show you how to create characters that are so real they live in the minds and hearts of readers long after they’ve finished the book. I want JK Rowling to teach this because for me, she is one of the few writers who has accomplished these goals. As a performer, I had to create my own magical world that will suck the audience in.  RHODES DUNLAP SECOND YEAR SCHOLAR  VOCAL PERFORMANCE MAJOR FROM FAIRFIELD, IA

SARAH MAYER IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? “How I Came Up With Harry Potter and Anything You Ever Wanted to Know About It" taught by JK Rowling  RHODES DUNLAP SECOND YEAR SCHOLAR  BIOCHEMISTRY MAJOR FROM JOHNSTON, IA

ALLISON KINDIG IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? I would take "Through the Eyes of My Sister" taught by Mori Openg, a girl from Indonesia whom my family supported throughout her childhood and early teenage years. Although I am technically an only child, Mori is like a sister to me. We received pictures, artwork, and letters from her several times a year. I really want to meet her someday, and when I do, I hope to learn about her and from her. Mori survived years of poverty, as well as a tsunami. She is an inspiration to me and my family. It would be a humbling honor to meet and learn through the eyes of my sister.  RHODES DUNLAP SECOND YEAR SCHOLAR  INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING MAJOR FROM CEDAR RAPIDS, IA

THOMAS MYRES ARE YOU A NERD, GEEK, OR NEITHER? WHY? While Wikipedia is not considered a reliable source it would appear I lean to the nerd side of this question. I am a gamer, but not a loner. I am quiet, but not really shy. My sister would tell you I am part Sheldon and part Leonard. I am a tinkerer. I like to figure out how things work and have been either building or taking apart my world, much to the dismay of my mother, since I was old enough to hold and use a screwdriver.  RHODES DUNLAP SECOND YEAR SCHOLAR  ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING MAJOR FROM PALO, IA

ELLA WASSWEILER ARE YOU A NERD, GEEK, OR NEITHER? WHY? Neither. Both assume that studying or schoolwork is the focus of your life and that you do not have any social skills. Although schoolwork is very important to me it is not the primary focus of my life. There are many things I enjoy doing other than schoolwork. I love to hang out with my friends, read Sherlock Holmes, and bike by the river!  RHODES DUNLAP SECOND YEAR SCHOLAR  ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING MAJOR FROM MENDOTA HEIGHTS, MN

SOPHIE AMADO IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? I already took the one course I wanted to take: a Harry Potter seminar. Donna Parsons teaches this course and it was fascinating "reading" Harry Potter at the college level. It has also been fascinating being a teaching assistant this semester and seeing the planning of this course up close.  RHODES DUNLAP THIRD YEAR SCHOLAR  ENGLISH & SPANISH MAJOR FROM CHICAGO, IL

MADISON BENNETT IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? "How to make to make crossword puzzles" taught by Will Shortz, puzzle editor for the New York Times.  RHODES DUNLAP THIRD YEAR SCHOLAR  INTERDEPARTMENTAL STUDIES MAJOR FROM CLEVELAND, OH

JENNIFER BROOKE IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? I would take "Universal Grammar and Second Language Acquisition" from Noam Chomsky, professor of linguistics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The class would talk about the implications of Chomsky's theory of universal grammar on second language acquisition, the process of learning a second language. Universal grammar, the idea that language is innate and not necessarily learned, has great implications on the field of linguistics and applies directly to subfields such as psycholinguistics.  JAMES D. ROBERTSON SCHOLAR   RHODES DUNLAP THIRD YEAR SCHOLAR  LINGUISTICS & MUSIC MAJOR FROM JOHNSTON, IA

SAVANNAH CARLSTROM IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? I would love to take Make Good Art, a class taught by author Neil Gaiman, a seminar course which would explore means of expression outside of traditional creative writing or drawing. I often feel a lack of creation or expression in my studies, and would like to remedy that. Mr. Gaiman gave a wonderful speech on this topic at the commencement ceremony of an art college, and his novels are some of my favorites.  RHODES DUNLAP THIRD YEAR SCHOLAR  SPANISH & SECONDARY EDUCATION MAJOR FROM DAVENPORT, IA

ELLYSA CASSIER ARE YOU A NERD, GEEK, OR NEITHER? WHY? I think I'm a mixture of both. I "geek out" when anyone mentions the word 'golf' or 'Greek Life' or discusses something I'm interested in. However, I'm also a nerd because I'd rather stay in and learn about History all day and all night if I could. My boyfriend and I are both History majors so we "nerd out" together and watch historical documentaries and discuss them after for our date nights!  RHODES DUNLAP THIRD YEAR SCHOLAR  HISTORY & SECONDARY EDUCATION MAJOR FROM WHEATON, IL

ALEKSANDER DURUMERIC IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? I'd rather take a single course from a musical genius than a course from a scientific one. I also would want him to choose the content, not me. I'm also not familiar with which musical geniuses are alive.  RHODES DUNLAP THIRD YEAR SCHOLAR  CHEMISTRY & MATHEMATICS MAJOR FROM IOWA CITY, IA

CURTIS GOOS IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? I would love to take a course that will soon be offered at NYU titled “Editing James Franco with James Franco” that is actually taught by none other than James Franco. In this class student editors are to create a "cinematic image" of James Franco using his short film footage. I would do this because I deeply admire humility and nothing says “I am down to Earth” like teaching a course about yourself. In all honestly, there is something fascinating about the idea of a course's subject being in a position to provide input about himself and react to students' impressions of him.  RHODES DUNLAP THIRD YEAR SCHOLAR  INTERNATIONAL STUDIES & FRENCH MAJOR FROM TREYNOR, IA

LIAM HOVEY IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? Bill Gates, Introduction to Programming. Topics: Python scripting. Reason: It's Bill Gates.  RHODES DUNLAP THIRD YEAR SCHOLAR  PHYSICS & CHEMISTRY MAJOR FROM STILLWATER, MN

ANDREA JACKSON IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? “Gaming for a better world” – This course explores ways to use video games to better the human condition and promote sustainability. Jane McGonigal, PHD, Game Designer I chose Jane McGonigal because she is an inspirational female game designer. She promotes making socially conscious games which solve real world problems, which is of great interest to me. We need more people to learn and understand how gaming can be a positive influence in the world."  RHODES DUNLAP THIRD YEAR SCHOLAR  PAINTING MAJOR FROM DULUTH, MN

HEJU JIANG IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? “All about Good Fortunes” taught by Thomas Müller (The 23-year-old German soccer player, youngest World Cup Golden Boot winner, Best Young Player of World Cup 2010). Thomas Müller has the most envied skill – he always scores effortlessly, because he is always at the right place at the right time on the soccer pitch to kick the ball into the net. Other than competing with him in being hilarious, I really hope that I can learn from him how to be the right person to kick the ball to score, at the right place at the right time - it is usually called "good fortune" but it is actually more than that.  RHODES DUNLAP THIRD YEAR SCHOLAR  MATHEMATICS & ECONOMICS MAJOR FROM CHINA

NICK KLEESE IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? I'd take Charlie Kaufman's "Uncovering the Wound: Writing the Unspeakable". The title of the course comes from a lecture Kaufman gave at the 2011 BAFTAs in which he declared, "we all have wounds... this is the thing that is tap danced over five times a day... but it is the thing that wants to live." In his course, he would guide us through the process of uncovering our personal wound to its transformation into a "screenplay, novel, or philosophical treatise." Kaufman work ignores conventions because it draws so purely from this wound, and it is this ability to address and embrace his own vulnerability that results in the some of the most creative and beautiful screenplays in the history of cinema.  RHODES DUNLAP THIRD YEAR SCHOLAR  ENLGISH MAJOR FROM WASHINGTON, IA

SHUQI LI IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? I would take Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar’s Positive Psychology class offered at Harvard University. I watched some videos of him talking about happiness. He is a great speaker and inspiring. In addition, I am very interested in positive psychology, the science of happiness. I believe that everyone deserves a happier life and better living, which can be achieved by learning more about positive psychology.  RHODES DUNLAP THIRD YEAR SCHOLAR  PSYCHOLOGY & COMMUNICATION STUDIES MAJOR FROM JINAN, SHANDONG, CHINA

DILLAN NEWBOLD IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? I'd take a second Organic Chemistry Lab with Ned Boden. Organic lab was a lot of work but I really enjoyed setting up complicated glassware and synthesizing molecules. Watching solutions boil over and change color was cool, but the real excitement in the class came from understanding the reaction and its importance in industry and medicine. Ned was an awesome professor. He challenged our class to think, but never seemed antagonistic like some difficult professors can.  RHODES DUNLAP THIRD YEAR SCHOLAR  BIOLOGY MAJOR FROM BOONE, IA

NICK ROLSTON ARE YOU A NERD, GEEK, OR NEITHER? WHY? Definitely nerd. Although I do not find myself unusually great, I certainly would classify myself as unusual. I strive to not simply go along with the status quo and conform in life. As Sarah Palermo once said, Being 'weird' is one of the most best complements you could ever give someone. If no one in the world was weird, everything would be normal, and that's boring. Be different. Stand out. Be the sore thumb that got hammered a couple times by a heavy mallet. Be that sole bird that's flying in the exact opposite direction everyone else is and hasn't a clue it's winter. My hobbies include spending ridiculous amounts of time making caloric behemoths, engaging in reckless social activities such as Snow Kabbadi, and marveling at the 8-foot inflatable Santa in my living room.  GUY & BETTY WILLIAMS SCHOLAR   RHODES DUNLAP THIRD YEAR SCHOLAR  PHYSICS &MATHEMATICS MAJOR FROM CEDAR RAPIDS, IA

GARRETT SKINNER IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? "Communicating Science to the Masses,“ taught by Neil DeGrasse Tyson. This course would address the major hurdles that one faces when trying to communicate science to the global population. Anti-intellectualism has started to creep through our modern American culture and in order to combat its further progress, science needs outstanding communicators. Science communicators, like Dr. Tyson and Carl Sagan, are truly unique individuals that understand how important it is for our entire society to understand and work to further a scientific understanding of our world and universe.  RHODES DUNLAP THIRD YEAR SCHOLAR  BIOCHEMISTRY MAJOR FROM MARION, IA

LAUREN VANCHINA IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? Option 1: If I could take any course, it would have to be Quebecois Tree Climbing with the master tree-climber from Port Cartier, Mr. John C. Vanchina (my dad.) He only ever fell out of that one tree. Option 2: "Writing Books that People Actually Like to Read" with David Sedaris. This course would cover the literary alchemy involved in turning one's mundane life into entertaining and poignant vignettes. Mr. Sedaris is a master at it.  RHODES DUNLAP THIRD YEAR SCHOLAR  DANCE & PSYCHOLOGY MAJOR FROM KANSAS CITY, MO

HAOYANG YAN IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? Piano performance. Content: a private piano lesson instructing me how to play a certain piano piece well (on technique and artistic level) I would choose Lang Lang, one of the most influential pianist in the contemporary world, as my instructor. His understanding of the piano as well as his arduous experience are so unique that I believe I will learn many precious things from him.  RHODES DUNLAP THIRD YEAR SCHOLAR  ECONOMICS & PSYCHOLOGY MAJOR FROM GUANGZHOU, GUANGDONG, CHINA

TANZEH KHAN ARE YOU A NERD, GEEK, OR NEITHER? WHY? I can't really differentiate between the two nor define either, so I'm going to say I am both a geek and a nerd, in addition to a dork for good measure. This is because I believe Matlab is magic not matrices, I know that Hogwarts is real, and I feel the need to express my praise for everyone by using the term 'so cute', making it awkward in all situations and for all parties involved.  RHODES DUNLAP THIRD YEAR SCHOLAR  BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING MAJOR FROM CLEAR LAKE, IA

JOHNATHAN KINGYON IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? I am really intrigued by the formation and success of a non-profit online- educational organization called Khan Academy, founded by Salman Khan. The course he would teach is "The Future of Education.” Coming from a small high school in a small town, I didn't learn proper study habits until I came to college. The types of lessons and motivations that he provides to the user is unparalleled in the education realm today and gives the user a desire to listen to the next lesson. I believe Salman Khan has opened a myriad of doors to people of all ages and deserves recognition for his current and future efforts to increase the productivity and efficiency of our education system.  RHODES DUNLAP THIRD YEAR SCHOLAR  BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING FROM WEST BURLINGTON, IA

BRITTANY HESSE IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? "How to Rock” – A course about stage performances, lyric writing, and the rest of the current music industry. Taught by Pat Monahan, Jimmy Stafford, and Scott Underwood (the members of the band Train) because they obviously know everything about rocking from first-hand experience.  RHODES DUNLAP THIRD YEAR SCHOLAR  HUMAN RESOURCE & BUSINESS ANALYSIS & PSYCHOLOGY MAJOR FROM SMITHLAND, IA

RACHEL REVELEZ IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? I would take a history course on Tortall taught by Tamora Pierce, the author of my favorite fantasy series. The course would be titled The History of Tortall: A Legacy, which would depict the foundation and development of the country of Tortall, featured in all of Tamora Pierces novels.  RHODES DUNLAP THIRD YEAR SCHOLAR  ELEMENTARY EDUCATION MAJOR FROM WEST LIBERTY, IA

KELLIE SEALES IF YOU COULD TAKE ANY COURSE FROM ANYONE ALIVE IN THE UNIVERSE, WHAT WOULD THE COURSE BE AND WHO WOULD TEACH IT? Title: Living a dream Description: “How to live without stress. How to support yourself while sailing around the Caribbean. How to be wildly successful doing what you love.” Teacher: Jimmy Buffett I grew up listening to my parent's Jimmy Buffett CD's. He is my definition of happiness. His songs make me think of hot summer wind, a refreshing swimming pool, ice cold lemonade, and complete childhood freedom. If he taught a class that could tell me how to feel like that every day, I would sign up in a heartbeat!  RHODES DUNLAP THIRD YEAR SCHOLAR  ELEMENTARY EDUCATION MAJOR FROM BAXTER, IA
