Why rice and a race?Why rice and a race? Rice is a great carbohydrate for runners! Supplying 45 grams of carbohydrates, brown rice is noted to be one of the foods that is recommended for runners. The most successful fund raising event at my school is Grace Christian’s Annual Race held in September. There are a few hundred runners that participate every year. For 2013 over 400 runners registered to run the Grace Race. What an opportunity to promote Louisiana and U.S. grown rice during September, the National Rice Month!
Pre-Race Rice Set-up With brown rice in the rice cooker, a bag of Louisiana grown rice, rice as confetti, and a poster board promoting rice and rice facts, I am ready to promote rice as a carbohydrate choice for the over 400 runners registered to run a 1 mile fun run or the 5K!
