8 Website: | Facebook ‘Leeds University Union’ | In a nutshell -LUU Social Guidelines say: Look after the safety and wellbeing of your members on socials. Whenever you are out as an LUU Club you are representing the Student Union and the University of Leeds. Clarify what is reasonable behaviour when you are participating in any activity or social event under the name of LUU.

9 Website: | Facebook ‘Leeds University Union’ | Organised v Unorganised LUU club social If any of the following criteria apply, then an event or social is deemed as being an ‘organised’ social: Activity in any way publicised by the Club/Society as Club/Society activity (including online). Activity funded in part or in whole by the Union of through your Union accounts. Activity requiring the use of equipment owned by the Club/Society/Union. Activity where group transport is booked through the Union. You are wearing clothing that identifies you to the University of Leeds, LUU or your club or society.

10 Website: | Facebook ‘Leeds University Union’ | Unacceptable behaviour Violence - any form Abusive behaviour - psychological/physical /sexual abuse Psychological/physical/sexual harassment – this includes bullying and harassment on social media facebook/twitter Urinating, defecating or vomiting in public Public/lewd nudity or conduct Impersonating other teams or clubs Club Initiation ceremonies Applying any form of peer pressure Criminal damage Boozy tours in LUU or University name Do not bring the reputation of the University of Leeds, LUU or your club or society into question Do not bring LUU or the University of Leeds name into disrepute!!

11 Website: | Facebook ‘Leeds University Union’ | And Definitely do not do….INITIATIONS ‘Any event in which members (often new members) are expected to perform any activity as a means of gaining credibility, status or entry within the group and involve peer pressure to get members to consume excessive alcohol or be coerced into any behaviour which may be deemed humiliating.’

Either: Go as an LUU club (and abide by the social guidelines) Go as a separate group on holiday (if you know you will not abide by the social guidelines). In this instance you must NOT: – Use your club or society accounts – Wear any kit or clothing which has the University of Leeds/LUU or any associated logos

15 Website: | Facebook ‘Leeds University Union’ | Getting your members home safely If there are a number of you out at an activity or social it is unlikely everyone will give you three rings to let you know they are safely home, so here are a couple of suggestions. – Nightbus – Amber taxi service – Two ‘designated drivers’ or ‘responsible persons’

16 Website: | Facebook ‘Leeds University Union’ | When it goes wrong If the activity or social is well planned and everyone behaves reasonably then you should all enjoy yourselves and never have to be involved in this section of the document. However we fully realise that people will let you down. There is a clear disciplinary process for dealing with issues however the outcomes vary greatly depending on the severity of the incident.
