Abiotic vs. Biotic Factors
Abiotic and Biotic Factors Mini-Lab You will need to observe 2 different samples of water For the first sample (no microscope) – Use a pipet to put a sample of pond water in a petri dish – Record/Draw your observations view of the water sample – Record evidence of life. – Next prepare a slide of a water sample and – draw IN DETAIL your field of view Use the Pond ID guide to identify any biotic factors you observed. For the second sample, you will use the microscope and make a wet mount
Final Analysis Write a short paragraph summarizing specific relationships between biotic and abiotic factors you observed in your water sample. – What abiotic factors are important to the biotic factors you observed and why? – What biotic factors are important to other biotic factors and why?
Sample 1 (no microscope) Record Observations: Draw Observations: Evidence of Life: Sample 2 (microscope) (Detailed Drawing of field of view) Identification of Organisms (using guide) Etc.
