2. There once was an oyster whose story I tell, That found some sand inside of his shell.

3. Just a small grain, But it gave him great pain For oysters have feelings Though they seem so plain

4. Which led him to such a deplorable state? Now did he berate The workings of fate…

5. Did he curse the government?

6. Call for an election?

7. Protection for Oysters is Overdue Mandate More High Tide Oysters Have Rights Too! And cry that the sea should have given him protection?

8. No! he said as he lay on the shelf Since I cannot remove it, I’ll try to improve it.

9. The years rolled along in their timeous way

10. And he came to his end on a lunch tray!

11. That small grain of sand that had bothered him so, Was a beautiful pearl, all richly aglow!

12. This tale has a moral, for isn’t it grand What an oyster can do with a small grain of sand.

13. Think what you and I could do if we’d only begin To improve those things… that get under our skin?
