Wessex Motor Club 2013

What is a scatter? Collection of points (called route checks [RCs]) “scattered” over the map. You are provided with clues which, when solved, give the location of these points. You are also given a sheet with a simple question for each point. Once you've solved some clues, go to those places and answer the questions to prove you were there.

An official that you should try to visit during a particular time slot You are given their location You should do your best to manage this as: They will give you some more clues You are awarded 10 points for each one you visit Control Marshals

Extra details Some RCs are worth more – usually those further away or with harder clues. Choose your route carefully – lots of tactics! You must be at the finish on time, otherwise you are disqualified. Aim to be a little early just in case you get stuck behind a Nissan Micra doing 20mph on your way to the finish...

A map and 'romer' (available at the start) A pencil (and probably a rubber...) Some way to tell the time (watch, phone, in-dash clock...) A torch (to find the answers at dark RCs) You will need:

Useful extras... Map board Clipboard Calculator?!

Basic approach to a first event Turn up and sign on. Receive final instructions and an answer sheet Plot things you know like locations of Control Marshals, Start, Finish etc. Check watch... Event starts!

First event started! Solve and plot as many clues as you want. Begin with the easiest Do not spend more than 10-15 minutes on this. Drive! Hopefully arrive at a correct RC location Get out and have a hunt for the answer to the question

Tips for first timers! Get to both control marshals Don't spend ages looking for answers at RC's Establish a clear way of marking RC's Get to the finish on time!!!

Any questions?

12 Car Rally - The Basics  You will need exactly the same stuff as for a Scatter: Map and map board Pencils and rubbers Roamer Torch for navigator Time telling device  BUT this time there is a fixed route rather than a choice of points.  You need to get to certain points along a certain route within a certain time.

How the event works:  Each Car (up to 12) set off on their own minute  Have to get to Time Control (TC) at your time  At each TC get more nav  Crew with least minutes and fails WINS

Timing Sheets  Show what time you should arrive at each TC  Marshall marks your actual arrival time  Can be a maximum of 30 minutes late at a TC  Allowed to make up a set amount of time on each section

Fails and Minutes  Every minute you drop, counts to your end score  Make-up time, exceeding = 1Fail  Missing TC = 3 Fails  Wrong direction to TC = 1 Fail  Open Envelope = 1 Fail

Code Boards  Found along the route  Correct order earns no fails  Left side of the road  Long-way-round triangles
