Students are familiar with method of finding perimeter and area of simple plane such as rectangle, square, triangle and parallelogram from your earlier classes.

Give some examples of circular objects.

Cut the circle in a number of sectors and rearrange them as per fig. 2 see that the shapes of the sectors are nearly rectangles of length = ½x2πr and breadth r.

Example:-1 Find the area of the sector of a circle with radius 6cm and central angle 120º
Sol. Here r = 6 cm
θ =120º
Therefore area of sector=120x22x6x6/ 360x7=37.71cm2

1 Find the area of a sector of circle with radius 9cm if angle of sector is 60º
2 The length of the minute hand of a clock is 10cm. Find the area swept by the minute hand in 12 minutes.
