12 Transportation Ad-Hoc Committee 2011 AGM: Formed committee mandated to develop a plan of action that addresses concerns of the community related to transportation and development. 2012 AGM: Mandate renewed and authorized to proceed with organizing an outdoor music festival. 2013 AGM: Mandate renewed and identified two Skyrattler representatives. Ordered to elect two Blue Quill Park residents as liaisons. Party in the Park standing committee formed.

20 The BQCL Mission Statement The Blue Quill Community League strives to provide a sense of community, and to enhance the quality of life in the greater Blue Quill Community, by providing: facilities for community use; excellent social, recreational and cultural programs; and focussed advocacy efforts.

21 Our Community League Founded in 1979 Hall facility was built in 1982 Number of Residents: 10,447 Number of homes: 4,835  Blue Quill: 4,568 (2,042 homes)  Blue Quill Estates: 1,296 (565 homes)  Skyrattler: 1,947 (1,172 homes)  Sweet Grass: 2,636 (1,056 homes) * 2012 City of Edmonton Neighborhood Census (as found on City of Edmonton web site at http://www.edmonton.ca)

27 Year in Review – Programs Independently run programs at BQCL:  Blue Quill 166 Scouts  Edmonton Area Girl Guides of Canada  Blue Quill Playschool  Enjoy Life Church Community Health & Wellness:  Community League Swim - Sat and Sun 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at Confederation Pool.  Outdoor pools – summer evenings.  Discounts on City of Edmonton recreational multi- use and annual passes

41 Elections There is a lot of organization required to keep the community league going We need volunteers! The more the volunteers, the easier it is Why Volunteer?  There are many reasons to volunteer!  Meet new people and make new friends  Gain work-related experience  Share existing skills and talents or learn new skills  Effect change and have a positive impact in YOUR community

42 Elections Why Volunteer?  Even MORE reasons to volunteer!  Champion a cause  Build confidence and self-esteem  Gain a sense of achievement  Pursue a special or personal interest

43 Elections Commitment to volunteering as a board member:  Consistent and open communication with other board members (email, phone)  Diligent completion of required tasks  Monthly board meetings (except for July)  Attendance at community league events  Annual board development activity  Suggested time commitment: 5 hours/week

44 Elections Rewards for volunteering on board:  You have a say in what goes on in the community  Get to know local politicians on first-name basis  Don’t have to write a volunteer cheque  Keys to the building  Refreshments at board meetings  Quarterly board meetings – dinner provided  Free half-day rental for each two-year term (qualify after serving one-year of term)
