Jamaica Bob Marley wanted to make Jamaica a better place as a whole and for the people living there They felt that his music helped them, capturing all aspects of Jamaica in his songs He became popular at a time where Jamaica was in political turmoil; the people looked to him for inspiration and hope He just wanted to make Jamaica better and took over as their representative
INSPIRATION TO OTHER NATIONS Bob Marley’s song, “Get Up, Stand Up” became an anthem for a lot of third world countries. They believed that the song was telling them to get up and fight the oppressors. “Get Up, Stand Up” Preacher man don’t tell me heaven is under the earth/ I know you don’t know what life is really worth/ Is not all that glitters in gold and/ Half the story has never been told/ So now you see the light, aay/ Stand up for your right. MARIJUANA According to the Rastafarian faith, marijuana is regarded as “wisdom weed”. Rastafarian leaders urge that it be smoked as a religious rite They claim that it was growing on the grave of King Solomon According to Psalms 104:14: “He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man, that he may bring forth food out of the earth.”
RASTAFARIAN FORBIDDEN THINGS No amputations No alcohol, tobacco, all meat (especially pork), shellfish, scale less fish, snails, predatory and scavenger species of marine life, and seasonings like salt No combing or cutting of hair (Leviticus 21:5: “They shall not make baldness upon their head, neither shall they shave off the corner of their beard, nor make any cuttings in their flesh.”)

According to Eric Clapton, “I walked into this dressing room that I couldn’t see the other side of for the smoke… I sat and talked with Bob, and he was just a great guy. He was so warm. Peace Bob Marley always promoted peace above all else. He threw a free concert in Jamaica, was invited to the United Nations in New York to receive the Medal of Peace, was invited by the governor of Zimbabwe to play an Independent Ceremony- which was the greatest honour and it showed their importance Also, in Jamaica, they were given the Order of Merit which is the third

BOB MARLEY’S DEATH While in London, England on tour, Bob Marley was playing football/ soccer, he injured his toe. He went to the doctors who did not do a good job on his Toe. Eventually, the toe became cancerous and the doctors told him that the only way to stop the cancer is to have the toe amputated. (According to the Rastafarian faith, amputation is forbidden.) Bob Marley did nothing about his
BOB MARLEY’S DEATH toe. Later on while he was walking he felt faint and went back to the doctors who told him that the cancer had spread all over his body and that he was going to die.
