Muscles of The Head Frontalis Function: raises eyebrows Temporalis Origin: temporal fossa Insertion: Coronoid process of mandible Function: closes jaw Orbicularis oris Function: kissing, whistling Orbicularis oculi Function: blinking, squinting Zygomaticus major Origin: Zygomatic bone Insertion: Skin/muscle at corner of mouth Funtion: raises lateral corners of mouth upward Zygomaticus minor Function: same as above Risorius Function: draws corner of lip laterally Buccinator Function: compresses cheek Masseter Origin: Zygomatic arch and maxilla Insertion: Angle and ramus of mandible Function: closes jaw, elevates mandible
Muscles of The Head Sternocleidomastoid Origin: Manubrium of Sternum Interstion: Mastoid process of temporal bone Function: Flexion of neck, head rotation to opposite shoulder Scalenes Function: Flex and slightly rotate neck, elevates ribs 1-2 Occipitalis Function: Pulls scale posteriorly
