Gifts for Good 1 Cor. 12:8-11
SPIRITUAL GIFTS “The gifts of the Spirit are not trophies, talents, traits or toys. The gifts of the Spirit are God’s supernatural expressions of love, caring, kindness, healing and concern— bestowed on us and through us.” John Wimber (Founder, Vineyard movement) “Spiritual gifts are like God’s power tools.” Rich Nathan (Pastor, Columbus Vineyard Church)
“Follow the way of love, and eagerly desire (seek; pursue) spiritual gifts…” ~ 1 Cor. 14:1
“I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.” ~ Luke 24:49
To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines. ~ 1 Corinthians 12:8-11
WORD OF WISDOM: Gives God’s direction—to lead a group or individual; may help solve a problem, discern God’s plan; give a course of action. God shows us what He sees so we know what to do.
WORD OF KNOWLEDGE: God gives Spirit-inspired insight in a contemporary situation. Includes Scripture, information about a situation or condition in someone’s life where God wants to encourage or heal.
FAITH: God-given anticipation—a mysterious surge of confidence God is about to act through a word or deed, followed by its realization in spite of contrary circumstances. Cannot be controlled, but we can ask for it. Often associated with healing & other miracles. Sometimes called “mountain-moving faith.”
GIFTS OF HEALINGS: Divine restoration of health and/or curing of illness. Plural indicates a variety of ways God heals: physical restoration, deliverance, emotional/spiritual/inner healing, restoration of relationships, etc.
MIRACULOUS POWERS or WORKING OF MIRACLES: People & things are visibly benefitted in an extraordinary way by God’s power working through an individual. Plural of Greek “dynamis.” Includes vanquishing demonic attacks against the Church.
