I don’t know what to say Good morning - hello How do you do? – You OK? – How are you? Nice weather Have you got a job? Have you met someone? Are you felling better? Have you made up?

I don’t know what to say I wish … I hope … May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand. May you know the peace that passes understanding.

I don’t know what to say Focus on the other person Listen, think. Draw on your own experience but don’t overly talk about it. Be generous Be well balanced talk about the positives talk about the negatives

Peter and Gentiles 11 Peter saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. 12 It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. 13 Then a voice told him, "Get up, Peter. Kill and eat." 14 "Surely not, Lord!" Peter replied. "I have never eaten anything impure or unclean." 15 The voice spoke to him a second time, "Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.“ (Acts 10) 11 When Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. 12 For prior to the coming of certain men from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he began to withdraw and hold himself aloof, fearing the party of the circumcision. (Galatians 2) 12 I wish that those who are troubling you would even mutilate themselves. (Galatians 5)

Scattered (Diaspora) Aliens (strangers) Sent out (Apostle) Trials, Never seen Jesus Perishing, spoilt, grief

1 Peter 1:1-9 1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To God's elect, strangers in the world, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, 2 who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance. 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade-- kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. Celebrating grace while acknowledging dis-grace brings peace Be generous in time and thought and word. Mostly focus on the other.

6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that your faith -- of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire -- may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honour when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9 for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. Thank God for his Word to us Celebrating grace while acknowledging dis-grace brings peace Be generous in time and thought and word. Mostly focus on the other.

All my days I will sing this song of gladness Give my praise to the Fountain of delights; For in my helplessness You heard my cry And waves of mercy poured down on my life. I will trust in the cross of my Redeemer I will sing of the blood that never fails; Of sins forgiven, of conscience cleansed Of death defeated and life without end. Beautiful Saviour, Wonderful Counsellor Clothed in majesty, Lord of history You’re the Way, the Truth, the Life. Star of the Morning, glorious in holiness You’re the Risen One, heaven’s Champion, And You reign, You reign over all I long to be where the praise is never-ending Yearn to dwell where the glory never fades; Where countless worshippers will share one song And cries of ‘worthy’ will honour the Lamb Celebrating grace while acknowledging dis-grace brings peace Be generous in time and thought and word. Mostly focus on the other.

Confession Purify my heart Let me be as gold And precious silver. Purify my heart Let me be as gold Pure gold. Refiner’s fire My heart’s one desire Is to be holy Set apart for You, Lord.
