2 Background of Play The play is a giddy fantasy with absurdist humor tackling the AIDS crisis of the 1980’s. The story is of the love and adventures of a brother and sister. When Anna becomes diagnosed with ATD, Acquired Toilet Disease, a fatal new malady with a high risk factor, she and her brother, Carl, take flight to Europe. After the audience is thrown through the ride of the adventures of the two siblings, the actual tragic circumstances are revealed in the final scene.
