Walking as Jesus walked, living as the Master lived, just might be one of the greatest challenges facing those who claim to be His followers. The greatest challenge facing you as a Christian?
How closely do we imitate our Master when it comes to praying?
Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus was also baptized, and while He was praying, heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, "You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased." Luke 3:21-22 When first baptized, learn to pray
In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there. Mark 1:35 Pray as the day begins
After He had sent the crowds away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray; and when it was evening, He was there alone. Matt. 14:23 As the day ends, speak to God
Then some children were brought to Him so that He might lay His hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them. Matt. 19:13 Pray for others
Some eight days after these sayings, He took along Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. Some eight days after these sayings, He took along Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. Luke 9:28 Pray with others
So Jesus, perceiving that they were intending to come and take Him by force to make Him king, withdrew again to the mountain by Himself alone. John 6:15 Pray when things are going well
It was at this time that He went off to the mountain to pray, and He spent the whole night in prayer to God. Luke 6:12 Pray when facing a major decision
Some eight days after these sayings, He took along Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. And while He was praying, the appearance of His face became different, and His clothing became white and gleaming. Luke 9:28-29 Prayer has transforming power
But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray. Luke 5:16 Prayer alone and often
Jesus prayed… At the outset of His ministry At the beginning of the day At the end of the day For others With others When things were going well When facing a major decision And was transformed while Alone and often the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked. 1 John 2:6
Ere you left your room this morning, Did you think to pray? In the name of Christ our Savior, Did you sue for loving favor, As a shield today? When you met with great temptation, Did you think to pray? By His dying love and merit, Did you claim the Holy Spirit As your guide and stay?
When your heart was filled with anger, Did you think to pray? Did you plead for grace, my brother, That you might forgive another Who had crossed your way? When sore trials came upon you, Did you think to pray? When your soul was bowed in sorrow, Balm of Gilead did you borrow At the gates of day?
O how praying rests the weary! Prayer will change the night to day; So when life seems dark and dreary, Don’t forget to pray.
