The Love Your Tree 2013 art exhibition, held at the Blend(er) Gallery in Joondalup, was a huge success, topping the efforts of the 2012 campaign. Women’s Healthworks received over 90 submissions of which approximately 50 were displayed. The Love Your Tree project promotes ways of developing positive body image messages through art. People were encouraged to submit a piece of art responding to the statement “Like a tree, my body is...” The aim of the program is to challenge the narrow definitions of beauty within our society and to encourage the exploration of body diversity and positive body image through the creation of art using the powerful symbol of a tree. The opening night was again supported by body artist Jess Johnston, from JJ Art, whose team was able to organise seven live models painted from head to toe as trees. The winner of Love Your Tree 2013, announced during the opening night, was Rebecca Lawrence, whose accompanying statement was “Like a tree, my body is…. A celebration of storms’ I’ve weathered and sunshine I’ve embraced.” Her winning entry will be used to promote Love Your Tree, Love Your Tree, 2013, was supported by CAN WA Community Arts Fund, and was recognised Nationally at the Positive Body Image Awards, WOMEN’S Healthworks are currently trying to secure funding for Features (pg 1) Love Your Tree Programs (pg 2) Body Esteem Program Making Sense of Motherhood Positive Mind Healthy Body Support Groups & Other News (pg 3) Craft Workshops ChoirTai Chi Other Services (pg 4) Stepping it Out Village Program Features (pg 5) Information / Referral Counselling / Health Support Clinic Incontinence Clinic Complementary Health Services Events (pg 6) Well Done and Thank You What’s ON Pg 1 Suite 6, Joondalup Lotteries House 70 Davidson Terrace JOONDALUP WA 6027 Tel: (08) Fax: (08) Web: Love Your Tree 2013 Winner Love Your Tree 2013

WHW would like to thank Rita and all the craft ladies who put an enormous effort into the morning. We would also like to thank the choir members from Merriwa and Joondalup who provided wonderful entertainment! Thank you Margaret! WHW Choirs are in demand and are doing a number of performances, including the Citizenship ceremonies for the City of Wanneroo and have already a number of bookings for Christmas!. POSITIVE BODY IMAGE AWARDS 2013 WHITFORD CITY WALKERS WOMEN’S Healthworks would like to say THANK YOU to the ladies from the Whitford City walking group for a donation they made of $ to the well deserved Royal Flying Doctor Service. The money was raised by the ladies very kindly sacrificing their Xmas in July gifts to each other and donating the money. What a fabulous idea! A letter of thanks was received by the Whitford Walkers from the Royal Flying Doctor Service On a fine sunny morning there was a good number of keen walkers for this event. Lots of familiar faces from the regular Tuesday Joondalup walking group as well as some new faces, which was particularly pleasing. A good pace was set and everyone arrived in good spirits at Botanic Golf for a welcome morning tea. This was served very efficiently by the staff at Botanic Golf and the group mixed well for a chat and lots of laughter. The return walk was equally pleasant and, despite looming dark clouds luckily the rain held off. The total length of the walk was 7.65 Km and hopefully a pleasant morning was had by all. Well done all ! Stepping It Out Spring Walk to the Botanic Golf on 24 September – Oh what a lovely day WHW received a commended award in the health and wellbeing category of the 2013 Positive Body Image Awards held in Sydney on Friday, 9 August, 2013 from the Hon Peter Garrett AM. The Awards recognise the positive steps taken by fashion, media and entertainment, health and wellbeing, and advertising organisations and individuals to promote positive body image messages to young people, in line with the Voluntary Industry Code of Conduct.
