The Idiocy of Boasting in the Uncertain
Jeremiah 9:24 (NIV) but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight," declares the LORD. Galatians 6:14 (NIV) May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
James 4:6b (NIV) That is why Scripture says: "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."
Hosea 13:3 (NIV) Therefore they will be like the morning mist, like the early dew that disappears, like chaff swirling from a threshing floor, like smoke escaping through a window.
Prov 27:1 (NIV) Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.
Matt 8:2-3 (NIV) A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, "Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean." 3 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!"Immediately he was cured of his leprosy. Acts 18:21 (NIV) But as he left, he promised, "I will come back if it is God's will." Then he set sail from Ephesus. 1 Cor 4:19 (NIV) But I will come to you very soon, if the Lord is willing, and then I will find out not only how these arrogant people are talking, but what power they have.
Prov 16:9 (NIV) In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps. Prov 19:21 (NIV) Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails. Prov 20:24 (NLT) How can we understand the road we travel? It is the LORD who directs our steps.
Ps 37:23 (NIV) The steps of the godly are directed by the LORD. He delights in every detail of their lives. Jer 10:23 (NIV) I know, LORD, that a person's life is not his own. No one is able to plan his own course.
