6 CLASS RULES AND BEHAVIOUR Important points: 5 minutes tolerance AFTER the teacher is in class. 7 CLASS RULES AND BEHAVIOUR Assignments are for you to learn… so you are expected to really make them. SAFE ASSIGN, I repeat… Safe Assign…… so please no ctrl C, ctrl V… at all… doing so conducts to AD (Academic Dishonesty) therefore to a 1 in the activity and an ugly report. Cell phones, iPods, MP3s, should never ring during class. Computers and ipads are allowed ONLY 1) if the student asks for permission (otherwise it’ll be kept for a week) and 2) if the teacher asks for it. Missing class prevents you from in class grades, but not from assignments. Check with your team mates for those, so you won´t miss the grades. Speaking in class sometimes is OK, if you speak about the subject being seen… If you chat with someone just because, you will be invited to go out. After 2 invites, you get a report each time… 3 reports and you gain a straight pass to the partial/final exam, for free. Planes Financieros Introduction to Management and Finance (Ph6012) M. en I. 12 THE PROBLEM BASED LEARNING METHOD. Planes Financieros Introduction to Management and Finance (Ph6012) M. en I. Alejandro Flores M. Instituto Mar de Cortés Week 1 Problematic Situation Learning process continues 2. Define the problem 1. Clarify terms 3. Brainstorm / analize problem 4. Classify the analysis ideas 5. Defining learning goals 6. Make an independent research 7. Report findings / conclussions Group dynamics Evaluation of the process

13 Step 1. Clarify terms Avoid confusions or missunderstandings about the meaning of certain key concepts that are included in the problem statement. Algo, students should try to precise the meaning of every given concept, allowing the members of the team to establish a common terminology. Step 2. Defining the problem. Students should define one or two specific problems, derivated from the inicial statement. This is the starting point of the analysis of the situation. The course objectives and support for each activity will serve as a guide for the development. Step 3. Brainstorm. Obtain different views of the same problem, in order to get different approaches to get solution alternatives, explanations, and perspectives. Step 4. Classify the ideas. The goals of this step is to classify the ideas from step 3. In step 4 students must reflect on how their ideas allow to explain and/or solve the stated problems. This step involves also getting rid of non relevant ideas. Step 5. Defiine learning goals. The goals is to translate the efforts of the whole exercise into specific learning goals. This reflects the emphasis the group wants to imprint in their learning process. This is one ot the three “self” elements of learning: self-direction. Step 6. Make an independant research. Fiinding learning material, relevant to the established learning goals. Once doing this, they should analize carefuly, being critic and creative: critic to determine the credibility of what they are reading; creative to evaluete possible application of the found material. This material should be enough, in both, quality and quantity, to respond to the learning goals. This is another “self” element of learning: self-regulation Step 7. Report the discoveries/solutions. Make a report of everything learned and discovered, and then reaching a conclussion. Planes Financieros Introduction to Management and Finance (Ph6012) M. en I. Alejandro Flores M.
