Measuring Up Today’s Goals: To learn about the benefits of indoor plumbing and safe drinking water. To understand the importance of thinking about how we use water. To learn simple ways we can conserve water.
Measuring Up You need to drink about 2/3 of a gallon of water each day to stay healthy.
Measuring Up The average family will use about 150 gallons of water per day for cooking, cleaning, showering, and other things.
Measuring Up You waste about 2 gallons (or 16 cups) of water every time you leave the faucet on while you brush your teeth! WOW! That’s a lot of wasted water!
Measuring Up It only takes about ¼ of a gallon (or 2 cups) of water if you only turn the faucet on to rinse out your mouth and toothbrush.
Measuring Up Can you think of other ways you could conserve water?
Measuring Up A water utility uses a water treatment plant to make water safe for drinking.
Measuring Up Without proper treatment, most water would be contaminated.
Measuring Up What would you do if McCreary County Water District didn’t treat the water for you? How would you get water?
