1 “Genuine discipleship is wholehearted discipleship.” – John Stott Jesus Calls the First Disciples 16 Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. 17 And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” 18 And immediately they left their nets and followed him.

2 “Genuine discipleship is wholehearted discipleship.” – John Stott 19 And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. 20 And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.

This image fits the transforming power of God’s rule that brings judgment and death to the old (once a fish is hooked, it is fatal consequences for the fish; life cannot go on as before), yet promises a new creation. -NIV Application Commentary

13 “Genuine discipleship is wholehearted discipleship.” – John Stott Christ is a leader that people want to follow, so much they would leave everything that they know and have (Andrew/Peter – their professions and James/John – their family).

14 “Genuine discipleship is wholehearted discipleship.” – John Stott The call is there for us now to all be his disciples and followers. Do we truly know what it takes? Find time throughout the week to reflect on the cost of discipleship. Pray that God would change our hearts and lives to fully commit to Jesus’ calling to be His.

Impartation: He gave himself. Demonstration: He showed them how to live. Delegation: He assigned them work. Supervision: He kept check on them. Reproduction: He expected them to reproduce.
