**Density Curves, mean and median**

AP Statistics

2
**A density curve is a curve that**

Is always on or above the horizontal axis and, Has an area of 1 underneath it Describes the overall pattern of a distribution

3
**Mean vs Median and density curves**

In a symmetric density curve the mean and the median are the same In a right scewed curve the mean is to the right of the median In a left scewed curve, the mean is to the left of the median

4
**Mean and Median of Density Curves**

The median of a density curve is: the equal-areas point, the point that divides the area under the curve in half The mean of a density curve is: The balance point, at which the curve would balance if made of solid material

5
**Is the following a density curve?**

Is it above the horizontal axis? YES Does it have an area of one underneath of it? Does it describe the overall pattern of the distribution? OF COURSE IT IS A DENSITY CURVE!
