A.Make Him Most Important (Who is He in your life?) John 1:27,30 “It is He who, coming after me, is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose.…This is He of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.’” John 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
B.Make Him All Inclusive (Where is He in your life?) 1 Corinthians 10:31 1 Corinthians 10:31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
Overcoming The Scarecrow Syndrome Reclaiming A Mind For The Ministry Objectives Overcoming The Tinman Syndrome Reclaiming A Heart For The Ministry Passion Overcoming The Lion Syndrome
Task Oriented: Tasks become bigger than people’s needs Overwhelmed Organizer – ministry is a centered around a clipboard, not people Melancholy Musician – perform for people when the light shines, then hides backstage when the show is over Dilly-dallying Doer – will fix, clean, or build around the building to avoid others Closet Cooker - easier to hide out in the kitchen than ministering to people
Issue Oriented: Issues become bigger than people’s needs Thin-skinned Theologian – prefers to debate the Word than apply the Word for the growth of others Lawless Lover - advocates acceptance at the expense of truth, righteousness and discernment Pushy Progressive - pushes trends for the sake of being contemporary rather than adapting to needs Languishing Legalist – resists change because traditions and personal opinions are elevated over personal growth
A.Ministry Is Superficial When Love Is Vacant 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.”
B.Ministry Is Sincere When Compelled By The Love Of Christ 2 Corinthians 5:14 “ For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died”
C.Ministry Is Supernatural When Enabled By The Love Of God Romans 5:5 “Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”
D.Ministry Is Stimulating When The Truth Is Tempered By Love Ephesians 4:15 “Speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head – Christ” 1.A Change-Oriented Ministry: Love Stimulates Growth 2.A Concerned Ministry: Love Softens Truth

What We Fear In The Ministry: Failure Rejection Change Problems Ineptitude Sacrifice Spiritual Warfare Faith
Why Timothy Struggled With The “Lion Syndrome”: Frequent Illness (1 Tim 5:23) Fear of Rejection (1 Cor 16:10-11) Being Young (1 Tim 4:12) False Teachers (1 Tim 1:3-7; 4:6-7; 6:3-5; 2 Tim 2:14-19,23) Persecution of Believers
God’s Encouragement Over Fear : 2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
God’s Encouragement Over Fear : A.Power Overcomes Fear Romans 8:37 Romans 8:37 we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us B.Love Overcomes Fear 1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
Perfected LovePrevailing Fear Love self-sacrifices (1 Jn 3:16; Jn 3:16) Fear self-protects Love is trusting – “believes all things” (1 Cor 13:7) Fear is suspicious Love “thinks no evil” (1 Cor 13:5) Fear is always concentrated on evil Love serves people (1 Jn 3:16-18) Fear moves away from people Love never fails (1 Cor 13:8) Fear immobilizes and flees
C.Soundness Of Mind Overcomes Fear Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Mind For Ministry In what ways does our ministry demonstrate that He is all important and all inclusive? How can we step out in faith rather than trusting in our flesh whereby God can be glorified?
Heart For Ministry Do we love the people of ministry more than the tasks of ministry? Who’s needs are being neglected?
Courage For Ministry Is God’s grace, power, and calling greater than our fear of taking the risk? What fears are paralyzing me from ministry?
