3 INTRODUCTION Aquatic plants in the north of the Russian Far East are still poorly studied and knowledge about them differs between regions. The most problematic genera are Potamogeton, Batrachium and Sparganium. Изученность водных растений на севере Российского Дальнего Востока до сих пор остаётся низкой и сильно различается по регионам. Наиболее проблемными группами представляются Potamogeton, Batrachium, Sparganium.

4 Potamogeton In Potamogeton there are questions on status of some taxa, their relations with close species, e.g. P. borealis with P. filiformis, P. subsibiricus, P. anadyrensis with P. sibiricus, and P. tenuifolius with P. alpinus. В роде Potamogeton остаются вопросы о статусе целого ряда таксонов, их взаимоотношения с близкими видами. Например, P. borealis из родства P. filiformis, P. subsibiricus и P. anadyrensis — P. sibiricus, P. tenuifolius — P. alpinus.

5 Potamogeton Most of these differences depends on ecological conditions. Such variation occurs in different parts of the whole range. P. tenuifolius P. alpinus (Yakutia) P. alpinus (Europe) Distinction in leaf width. P. subsibiricus P. anadyrensis P. sibiricus Difference in number of leaf veins. P. borealis P. filiformis Main distinction in leaf width.

6 Potamogeton North American P. richardsonii, P. strictifolius occurs in the area. It is of interest how widely these species are spread. Tropical P. fryeri, P. digynus, P. distinctus are recorded here. Are these records correct? What promotes their preservation under these conditions? Also hybrid activity study in this genus is important. В регионе встречаются североамериканские P. richardsonii, P. strictifolius. Представляет интерес на сколько широко распространены эти виды. Здесь же указаны тропические P. fryeri, P. digynus, P. distinctus. Точны ли эти указания? Что способствовало их сохранению в этих условиях? Также актуально выяснение гибридной активности в этом роде.

7 Potamogeton The main task is to clarify geographical and ecological patterns, relations with close species of these forms in the area. P. x nitens P. x sparganiifolius Hybrids are very characteristic for the genus. They occurs frequently and may be abundant in habitats, especially in rivers. P. distinctus P. fryeri Species from P. nodosus group with the main range in tropical area. Isolated localities far to the north. P. richardsonii P. strictifolius North American species close to P. perfoliatus and P. rutilus respectively. P. richardsonii differs by fimbriate stipules, P. strictifolius by larger number of leaf veins.

8 Batrachium Batrachium kauffmannii, B. mongolicum and B. trichophyllum are common in the northern RFE. Other taxa need studying. Is real B. eradicatum presented here or it is a small form of other species? Наиболее обычны на севере РДВ Batrachium kauffmannii, B. mongolicum и B. trichophyllum. Остальные таксоны нуждаются в изучении. Представлен здесь настоящий B. eradicatum или это мелкие формы других видов?

10 Batrachium Heterophyllous B. mongolicum (B. setosissimum), and its relation with close European B. aquatile, B. floribundum and Japanese B. nipponicum are interesting. What is the large river form similar to B. pseudofluitans, mentioned here as B. ashibetsuense and B. yezoense? Интересен гетерофильный шелковник B. mongolicum или B. setosissimum, его взаимоотношение с близкими европейскими B. aquatile, B. floribundum и японским B. nipponicum. Что такое крупная реофильная форма из родства из B. pseudofluitans, упоминавшаяся здесь как B. ashibetsuense и B. yezoense?

11 Batrachium The main task is to clarify taxonomical status, relations with close species of these forms. European complex of river forms B. pseudofluitans Originated from hybridization of different species. River forms from Kamchatka and other places known as B. ashibetsuense and B. yezoense These forms are similar to European B. pseudofluitans. B. mongolicum B. aquatile B. floribundum B. dichotomum These heterophilous species are very close one each other. Their relations are still unclear.

12 Sparganium Besides Sparganium angustifolium, S. emersum, S. glomeratum, S. gramineum, S. hyperboreum, S. natans, 1 (possibly 2) taxon of hybrid origin occur. It is a stabilized hybrid of S. emersum or little-known S. probatovii described from Koryakiya. Other hybrids in this genus can be expected. Кроме Sparganium angustifolium, S. emersum, S. glomeratum, S. gramineum, S. hyperboreum, S. natans встречается 1 (а возможно и 2) таксон гибридогенного происхождения — это либо какой-то стабилизировавшийся гибрид S. emersum, либо описанный из Корякии малоизвестный S. probatovii. Возможно нахождение и других гибридов в этом роде.

13 S. gramineum S. natans S. angustifolium S. emersum Sparganium The main problem is exact determination of species. Characters based on fruits. But plants rarely produce fruits because of extreme climate conditions.

14 Other genera It is necessary to pay attention to genera Callitriche, Myriophyllum, Utricularia and some others. The status of Callitriche subanceps is unclear. The distribution and relationship between Myriophyllum sibiricum and M. spicatum in the region is an open question. Urticularia stygia, a new species for the Asiatic part of Russia, has been discovered recently in the northern RFE. Следует обратить внимание и на роды Callitriche, Myriophyllum, Utricularia и некоторые другие. Неясен статус Callitriche subanceps. Открыт вопрос о распространении и взаимоотношении в регионе Myriophyllum sibiricum и M. spicatum. Недавно был выявлен на севере РДВ новый для азиатской части России вид Urticularia stygia.

16 Cryptogamic macrophytes Cryptogamic macrophytes (freshwater macroalgae and bryophytes) require special investigation. These plants are seldom taken into account in hydrobotanical studies, however in some aquatic ecosystems they form the core of macrophytic vegetation. Отдельного рассмотрения требует группа криптогамных макрофитов — пресноводных макроводорослей и мохообразных, которые редко учитываются в отечественных гидроботанических исследованиях, однако в некоторых типах водных экосистем они являются основой макрофитной растительности.

20 CONCLUSION 1. Composition of aquatic macrophytes in the northern Russian Far East will be changed based on extensive field researches and study of herbarium collections. 2. Number of species will be preliminary the same because of including of new taxa and excluding critical and misidentified forms. 3. Diversity of cryptogamic macrophytes should be much larger than known to date. 4. Extensive field investigations, critical study of the most genera of aquatic macrophytes in the area are required for understanding their diversity, geographical and ecological patterns, biology in extreme climate conditions of the northern Russian Far East.
