5 Purpose for our finances ‘Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy’ ‘That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate’ ‘Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may hold on eternal life’ (I Tim 6 v 17-19)

6 Obedience and our finances Romans 6 :16 (paraphrased) Who you chose to obey, you become servants to! We want to serve the Lord Jesus Christ by correctly interpreting the Word of God through the promptings of the Holy Spirit

7 Wisdom and our finances 2 Timothy 2 : 15 ‘Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth’. A great place to start is Proverbs and Ecclesiastes

9 Group Exercise What scriptures / biblical stories, which clearly talks to us about wisdom and money, are you familiar with? Maximum of 3 examples per group dependent on available time

10 My Favourite Bible Scriptures A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just (Proverbs 13 v 22 - see also Proverbs 19 v 14) Inheritance planning For wisdom is a defence and money is a defence ( Ecclesiastes 7 v 12a) Defence

11 My Favourite Bible Scriptures Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink, ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put into a bag with hole (Haggai 1 v 6) Wages are being devoured by taxes, debt and general bills!

12 My Favourite Bible Scriptures In all labour there is profit; but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury or poverty (Proverbs 14 v 23) Decide your type of labour The rich man’s wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty (Proverbs 10 v 15) Be aware of the effects of poverty
