CeRA Unit of Simulation and Informatics (IARI), New Delhi To upscale the existing R & D information resource base of ICAR Institutions/ Universities comparable to world’s leading Institutions/ Organizations. To subscribe e-journals and create e-access culture among Scientists/ Teachers in National Agricultural Research System (NARS). To access the impact of CeRA on the level of research publications measured through NAAS ID and Science Citation Index (SCI) SBI, CBE 16 th Mar Objectives

CeRA Unit of Simulation and Informatics (IARI), New Delhi SBI, CBE 16 th Mar Targets CeRA is for institutions (including RS / colleges) in NARS (IP Authentication) At present 142 (+5) institutions in NARS are members. A particular article of a journal, not subscribed by CeRA, but available in library of an institution can be obtained through Document Delivery Request System (DDRS). So far, > 14,000 reprints have been distributed free among CeRA members under DDRS.

CeRA Unit of Simulation and Informatics (IARI), New Delhi FACILITIES PROVIDED IN CeRA  24 x 7 Online accessibility of scientific articles to researchers in NARS through IP authentication.  Training from time to time and online-offline Support.  Science Citation Index Analysis – facility provided for all researchers in NARS (on request)

CeRA is one among the charter of Achievements in ICAR in the newspaper clipping (reported in July 2011) - 4. Achievements

CeRA Unit of Simulation and Informatics (IARI), New Delhi Release of CeRA User Manual by Dr. S. Ayyappan, Director General, ICAR at SDAU, Gujarat on 12 th August 2011

CeRA Unit of Simulation and Informatics (IARI), New Delhi CeRA IN A GLIMPSE OF ICAR ACHIEVEMENTS CeRA – A SUCCESS STORY IN NARS

CeRA Unit of Simulation and Informatics (IARI), New Delhi Enhanced knowledge in different areas of agricultural research revealed through increased number of downloads of research articles from subscribed Journals > 3.5 million articles downloaded during 2008 – 2011

CeRA Unit of Simulation and Informatics (IARI), New Delhi A.E-journals shorten time spent on article retrieval or visiting the library. B.More journals could be published because e-journals make accessing good quality papers faster and easier. C.Information related to specific experimental processes through e-journals. D.I exchanged (received or distributed) more journal articles with colleagues, because e- journals make distribution of articles easier and cost effective. E.I became more organized in archiving papers by using e- journals, creating my own mini library. Perceived impact of CeRA Use of CeRA Website by users

CeRA Unit of Simulation and Informatics (IARI), New Delhi No. of Faculty and no. of papers Impact of CeRA on Research Output based on 40 institutions in NARS Impacts, so far There is an annual increase of about 6.5% and 18.5% increase in the number of publications respectively in and in NARS

CeRA Unit of Simulation and Informatics (IARI), New Delhi Evaluating the quality of publications published by researchers in NARS through Web of Science

CeRA Unit of Simulation and Informatics (IARI), New Delhi No of publications (4yrs; ) Pre- and Post- CeRA Citations in Web of Science of Four years ( ) Publications in CeRA (Category-wise)

CeRA Unit of Simulation and Informatics (IARI), New Delhi Year-wise Pre- and Post- CeRA Citations of Published Papers at IARI (based on Web of Science)

CeRA Unit of Simulation and Informatics (IARI), New Delhi Shortfall / Constraints Poor response from some Institutions for updating Library Subscribed Journals Some institutions do not respond to DDR system (although scientists/faculty avail the facility) IVRI issue on continuation of subscription to journals (as on 2009) Agreement with Publishers

CeRA Unit of Simulation and Informatics (IARI), New Delhi 6. Way Ahead To reach the unreached: CeRA caters to 142 institutions in NARS. However, we have about 600 KVKs and 640 research stations which need CeRA facilities. Necessary steps are to be taken to cover all organizations associated with agricultural activities. To enhance the spectrum of knowledge: NARS being among the largest network engaged in agriculture research, education and extension having about 1500 nodes spread across length and breadth of the country. CeRA to take every effort to spread latest scientific knowledge (through e- Resources) to these nodes. Incentives: As desired in Steering Committee, CeRA awards are to be implemented. This initiative would enhance better R and D output in NARS.
