Fractions An Interactive Activity introducing quarters

First we will slice it into 2 equal sized pieces. Click on the cutter to slice the pizza. Each piece is called a half.

If we slice it into 2 more equal sized pieces we will have 4 pieces altogether Each piece is called a quarter.

1 whole pizza has been split into 4 equal pieces We write it like this. 1 whole pizza 4 equal pieces

2 quarters is the same amount as 1 half 2 4 1 2 =

We can cut other shapes and objects into quarters too.

We can even cut them into quarters in different ways

We can do this with numbers as well 1 4 of4=1

1 4 4=1 is the same as… Cutting these numbers in quarters is the same as dividing them by 4. 4:-4=1 These give us the same answer.
