October 26 – November 1, 2014 “If the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes the life of one of them, that man will be taken away because of his sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for his blood.” (Ezekiel 33:6, New International Version) Weekly World Watch Andy Walton’s To skip the introductory slides and go straight to this weeks developments click here. What is a Weekly World Watch? Israel: The continuing conflict in the Middle East and focus on Jerusalem. Europe: Its developing union, both political and religious. Russia: Its return to anti-Western ways as Bible prophecy’s “king of the north.” The UK and the US: Bible prophecy’s “king of the south.” Moral standards in decline and violence on the increase. WWW presentations in PowerPoint can be ordered as audio/visual CDs by clicking here. Move your mouse to place the cursor on the blue link and click.clicking here The idea is simple. It is to look at current events and compare them to events spoken of in the Bible.. I hope to build up a picture of God’s hand working in the affairs of this world. God is bringing about a day when all nations will be gathered to Jerusalem to battle. At that time God will send His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, back to this earth. Jesus will then establish God’s kingdom on earth. This kingdom will last for ever. This is our hope and the reason we watch. Increasing natural disasters: including earthquake, famine etc The following six themes will appear repeatedly in WWW:
HEADLINE EVENT COMMENT News Photo The source of the headline and the date are included. Each WWW looks at a few key developments that have happened during the past week. It is in no way meant to be exhaustive – just a look at those events I saw as significant from a Biblical point of view. What is in a Weekly World Watch? BIBLE QUOTE This is normally one verse which backs up why the event that has occurred is interesting from a Biblical perspective. Please read in its context. Unless stated otherwise, all quotes are from the King James Version. (Book, chapter, and verse) This is straight from a news report that caught my eye because it looked significant from a Biblical perspective, usually that of prophecy. Every WWW event slide has the following format. To reveal each block of text just left click your mouse or press the space bar. You control when it appears. This is the reporter’s description of the event. It is always a direct quotation from the news report and reflects the understanding of the reporter and editors. This is my comment on why the event is interesting to a Bible student. The intention of the WWW is to offer brief Biblical perspectives without going into detail. If more detail is desired, please e-mail me: (email@example.com). Please note that these are personal thoughts and the aim is purely to stimulate Bible firstname.lastname@example.org

A spokesman for Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas has described the closure of a disputed Jerusalem holy site as a "declaration of war”. The move came amid tension and violence after the shooting of a Jewish activist. Israel's PM urged calm, saying Mr Abbas was stoking unrest. The holy site will reopen on Friday, Israel's economy minister says. Yehuda Glick, a campaigner for greater Jewish prayer rights at the Temple Mount/al-Haram al-Sharif, was wounded. Israeli police later killed a Palestinian suspected of shooting him. Moataz Hejazi, 32, was shot after reportedly opening fire when police surrounded his home. Rabbi Glick is a well-known US-born campaigner for the right of Jews to pray at the site, which is currently prohibited. BBC, October 30, 2014 EVENT COMMENT the LORD appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared unto him at Gibeon. And the LORD said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually. BIBLE QUOTE The tension is increasing in Jerusalem. It has been doing so since the conflict a few months ago in Gaza. For the first time in 14 years Israel closed the Temple Mount area. This was a declaration of war according to the Palestinian leader. This Temple Mount area (where the Dome of the Rock is situated) is massively important from a Biblical point of view. It is where Abraham sacrificed his son Isaac. It is where Solomon built the first Temple. It is where the second Temple was built. It is where (when Christ returns) the third temple will be built. It is the most holy place in all the world. God said to Solomon when the Temple was finished that his eyes and his heart would be there perpetually. This very site will be the epicentre of the final war over Israel. Back in the year 2000 President Clinton tried to divide the Temple Mount area. He nearly succeeded. But the Palestinians refused to divide it and began an intifada. That intifada led to 9/11 and the time of terrorism. We are possibly close to another intifada…. he UN holds emergency meeting on Israel tensions A U.N. official warned in an emergency meeting of the Security Council on Wednesday that Israel's plans for further settlements in east Jerusalem threaten the viability of the future Palestinian state. Close ally the United States also warned against Israel's plans. The council met at the request of member Jordan on behalf of the Palestinians, who are insisting upon a halt to such settlement efforts. Tensions have been revived between Arabs and Jews over Israel's plans to build about 1,000 housing units in east Jerusalem, the part of the city the Palestinians demand for their future state. Israel's ambassador, Ron Prosor, said his country is doing everything possible to minimize tensions. The Palestinian ambassador, Riyad Mansour, said Israel isn't listening and called the situation "explosive." Associated Press, October 29, 2014 EVENT COMMENT For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. BIBLE QUOTE (Zechariah 14:2) Jerusalem and the situation in Israel may not be headline news right now but behind the scenes (and if we are watching) a lot is going on. The Prime Minister of Israel has announced the building of 1000 new homes in east Jerusalem. There seems little doubt this is in retaliation to the Palestinians and the recent war. America is livid at this. A top Israeli minister said on Saturday there was a “crisis” in the country’s relations with the United States. The U.S. called Israel's latest settlements plans "deeply concerning," saying any settlement activity "will already escalate tensions at a time they are already tense enough." And so we see Jerusalem (and Temple Mount) becoming a massive issue for the world. We know with Bible in hand that one day it will explode onto our screens as a worldwide issue. The world is trying to divide Jerusalem. This will bring all nations against Jerusalem to battle…
Sweden recognizes Palestinian State; Israel upset The move by Sweden's new left-leaning government reflects growing international impatience with Israel's nearly half-century control of the West Bank, east Jerusalem and its blockade of the Gaza Strip. It also comes during increased tensions between Arabs and Jews over Israel's plans to build 1,000 housing units in east Jerusalem. Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom said Sweden, fulfilling a promise made when the Social Democratic-led government took office earlier this month, believes the Palestinians have met the criteria under international law for such recognition. "There is a territory, a people and government," she told reporters in Stockholm, adding that Sweden was the 135th country in the world to recognize a Palestinian state. It is the third Western European nation to do so, after Malta and Cyprus. Some Eastern European countries recognized a Palestinian state during the Cold War. Associated Press, October 30, 2014 EVENT COMMENT I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land…. Yea, and what have ye to do with me, O Tyre, and Zidon, and all the coasts of Palestine? We reported last week how the UK government had voted in a non binding motion to recognise a Palestinian state. This week Sweden has gone a step further and the government there has officially recognised Palestine as a state. By doing this Sweden in effect says that Jerusalem is divided in two. That Israel is divided in two. That Israel is an occupying enemy force. Israel is God’s land that He gave to the Jews. It is amazing that in the Bible it speaks about the nations of the world dividing the land of Israel. God then explains exactly what he thinks to this. He says in the very next verse “what have you to do with me….coasts of Palestine!” The coasts of Palestine refer to the Gaza strip area. God says that these people have nothing to do with Him and the land. That’s God answer… BIBLE QUOTE (Joel 3:2+4)
he Nato reports rise in Russia military flights over Europe Nato has reported an "unusual" increase in Russian military aircraft conducting manoeuvres over European airspace over the last two days. A Nato statement said four groups of aircraft, including Tu-95 Bear bombers and MiG-31 fighters, were tracked over seas and the Atlantic Ocean. Fighter aircraft from Norway, Britain, Portugal, Germany and Turkey were scrambled in response. Tensions between Russia and Nato states have soared over the Ukraine crisis. The US and EU imposed sanctions on Russia after its annexation of Ukraine's Crimean peninsula earlier this year. Ties have been further strained as the West has accused Russia of supporting rebels in eastern Ukraine - a charge Russia has denied. The Nato statement on Wednesday made no mention of Ukraine. BBC, October 29, 2014 EVENT COMMENT Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up: Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong. BIBLE QUOTE (Joel 3:9-10) Russian nuclear-capable bombers conducted a third day of military runs along Europe's coasts on Friday, NATO alliance announced. In all, Nato said in a statement, its jets had intercepted four groups of Russian aircraft in about 24 hours since Tuesday. Meanwhile defence officials, said several Russian Il-76 refuelling tankers were seen at Cairo International Airport this week, fuelling concerns that the large-scale bomber and fighter operations by the Russians will be extended to the Mediterranean and Egypt. A U.S. official said the deployment is being viewed by intelligence analysts as a sign that Egypt is moving closer to Russia in its military relations. And so we see Russia testing Europe’s responses and pushing against what it sees as aggression in Ukraine. Despite the gas deal this week eastern Europe remains on edge and Russia is showing it is not backing down. All events are leading to conflict and a time of trouble such as never was. The clock is ticking…
Russian Arms Sales to Syria, Iran Add to Middle East Instability Putin’s Russia has revived its once flagging global arms sales business and is using those sales to revive its defence industrial base. Second to only the United States with about a 26 percent share of the global arms market—the United States has a 30 percent share—Russian arms sales in 2013 generated some 13 billion dollars for government coffers according to the pro-government Russia Today. Other sources, such as the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), claim that the annual value of Russian arms sales, which the Russian government cloaks in secrecy, often exceeds that of the United States. The obvious financial benefits tell but a small part of the value Russia derives from its arms sales abroad. Unlike the United States where large private corporations compete for arms contracts, since 2007 Russia has relied on the state-controlled consortium Rosoboronexport to monopolize Russian arms sales and to advance Russian foreign policy objectives. Washington FreeBeacon, October 30, 2014 EVENT COMMENT I have put hooks in thy jaws, And have brought thee out, and all thy force, Horses and horsemen,, A numerous assembly, [with] buckler and shield, Handling swords. Persia, Cush, and Phut, with them, All of them [with] shield and helmet. Be prepared, yea, prepare for thee, Thou and all thine assemblies who are assembled unto thee, And thou hast been to them for a guard. BIBLE QUOTE (Ezekiel 38:4-8 YLT) The countries into which Russia pours its arms and military equipment says it all. Russia stands four square with Syria and Iran. Two nations America says are part of the axis of evil! Russian sales to Syria of T-72 battle tanks, interceptor aircraft such as the very fast Mig-31, training aircraft and attack helicopters are playing a pivotal role in inflicting heavy casualties on insurgent forces. Over 200,000 civilians have died in this war. Since at least the 1990s Russia has been providing technical assistance to Iran’s development of a long-range missile program. These missiles are aimed in one direction – Israel. The Bible says that Russia would act as a guard (protector) of Iran. We see in the headline above Ezekiel 38 before our eyes…
Pope: Big Bang & evolution 'compatible with Creator' The theory of the Big Bang is compatible with the Catholic Church's teaching on creation and belief in both is possible, Pope Francis has said. The Pope insisted that God was responsible for the Big Bang, from which all life then evolved. The Big Bang - the theory that the universe was born in a cosmic explosion about 13.7 billion years ago and has expanded and evolved since - "doesn't contradict the intervention of a divine Creator, but demands it," the Pope said. The beginning of the world was not "the work of chaos" but part of a divine plan by the Creator, he said. The Jesuit Pope made the remarks during an address to a meeting of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, which gathered at the Vatican to discuss "Evolving Concepts of Nature". Daily Telegraph, October 28, 2014 EVENT COMMENT For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it. EVERTHING was made from the first day of creation onwards. Before the first day NOTHING existed. The earth was made on the 1 st day. The sun was created on the 4th day. BIBLE QUOTE (Exodus 20:11) The Catholic teaching is…. out of creation came evolution. God (they say) did NOT create the heavens and the earth and all that is in it in 6 days. He did not create the plants and trees on day 3. He did not make man on day 6 etc. But how do you have creation and evolution? One species turning into another over time is basically saying that a frog will turn into a prince over billions of years! The Pope said this week that God isn’t some magician waving his magic wand and creating things. It is true that God does not need a wand. He spoke and it was instantly created. The Pope it seems finds that too hard to believe. When God made Adam he was made as a man. The scientist on the day Adam was made would tell you he must have lived for 30 years. But in fact Adam was only a day old! God made everything mature and very good. He spoke and it was created. Genesis 1 is fact and truth.
