© 2009 Open Grid Forum 2 OGF IPR Policies Apply “I acknowledge that participation in this meeting is subject to the OGF Intellectual Property Policy.” Intellectual Property Notices Note Well: All statements related to the activities of the OGF and addressed to the OGF are subject to all provisions of Appendix B of GFD-C.1, which grants to the OGF and its participants certain licenses and rights in such statements. Such statements include verbal statements in OGF meetings, as well as written and electronic communications made at any time or place, which are addressed to: the OGF plenary session, any OGF working group or portion thereof, the OGF Board of Directors, the GFSG, or any member thereof on behalf of the OGF, the ADCOM, or any member thereof on behalf of the ADCOM, any OGF mailing list, including any group list, or any other list functioning under OGF auspices, the OGF Editor or the document authoring and review process Statements made outside of a OGF meeting, mailing list or other function, that are clearly not intended to be input to an OGF activity, group or function, are not subject to these provisions. Excerpt from Appendix B of GFD-C.1: ”Where the OGF knows of rights, or claimed rights, the OGF secretariat shall attempt to obtain from the claimant of such rights, a written assurance that upon approval by the GFSG of the relevant OGF document(s), any party will be able to obtain the right to implement, use and distribute the technology or works when implementing, using or distributing technology based upon the specific specification(s) under openly specified, reasonable, non- discriminatory terms. The working group or research group proposing the use of the technology with respect to which the proprietary rights are claimed may assist the OGF secretariat in this effort. The results of this procedure shall not affect advancement of document, except that the GFSG may defer approval where a delay may facilitate the obtaining of such assurances. The results will, however, be recorded by the OGF Secretariat, and made available. The GFSG may also direct that a summary of the results be included in any GFD published containing the specification.” OGF Intellectual Property Policies are adapted from the IETF Intellectual Property Policies that support the Internet Standards Process.
© 2009 Open Grid Forum 3 Agenda Alignment with Other OGF Work Production Profile Planning
© 2009 Open Grid Forum Alignment JSDL Describes Request Note also Activity Instance Document integration UR Describes What Happened GLUE Describes Whole System configuration State changes … Want Consistency Should be possible; one basic domain Computational Resources Compute Jobs Green Computing (Future) Research Group They will profile UR to add description of power consumed and carbon emitted Very complex; easier to keep out of main UR specifications 4
© 2009 Open Grid Forum Production Profile Current UR is not able to handle Grid jobs without extensibility elements Not enough resources No coupling to Grid user identities No ability to ensure authenticity of URs Need to have “Standard Extensibility” 5
© 2009 Open Grid Forum Production Resources Two routes to revise Constrain existing definitions more tightly Add new through Resource extensibility mechanism Application Name Version Software Licenses Commercial software infested There are different sorts of licenses… 6
© 2009 Open Grid Forum Grid Identity Who really submitted the job? Vital for accounting Just the local username is not enough Dynamic user management Virtual Machines allow all users to have the same username Partially envisaged in current spec Need one way to do it so can know how to report to other organizations Need VO info as well as user info 7
© 2009 Open Grid Forum Signing Need to verify correctness of UR Audit trail Prove that the record came from where it was supposed to Could do it by ensuring entire path record has taken is valid Hard in practice! Adding a signature easier By issuer Include users’ signed request By users’ X.509 proxy 8
© 2009 Open Grid Forum XML Hacking Resources can use extensibility elements Need standardized names/formats Grid User Identity by constraining global identity definition elements Standard interpretation of values VO name needs extension Signature needs extension New element, derived type Also must define the signature algorithm 9
© 2009 Open Grid Forum XML Hacking (Before) … … 10
© 2009 Open Grid Forum XML Hacking (After) … … 11 New XML New Constraints Key:
© 2009 Open Grid Forum To Do Are the only elements to add the VirtualOrganization and the Signature? The less new XML the better Enumerate Resources to add Leverage alignment with JSDL/GLUE Define GlobalUser/VO string syntax? No good if we can’t interoperate Define Signature method Selector (just UR) Normalization 12
© 2009 Open Grid Forum Planning First draft of Production Grid UR by next OGF This is a very tight schedule! Get to public comment by end of 2009? Highly contingent on successfully hitting first target This will be on the Recommendation track, so will have a 60-day review period 13
