Martin Op ‘t Land Marien Krouwel Capgemini / AMS / TU Delft Capgemini / UA EEWC 2013 May 13 th, 2013 Exploring Organization Implementation Fundamentals

Martin Op ‘t Land and Marien Krouwel Proposition  Organization implementation variables are crucial for Traceability in governing enterprise transformations Generic IT support o Enabling agile IT  We found a list of 20 of such variables from literature, which was extended in two tests by another 10 variables EEWC May 13th, 2013

Martin Op ‘t Land and Marien Krouwel Context (supply) DataInformationBusiness Changes have a very diverse impact in an enterprise EEWC May 13th, 2013 Changes in environment  changes in several aspect systems and perspectives Changes in environment  changes in several aspect systems and perspectives Δ law Δ customer needs Context (environment + demand) Function Construction / ontology Construction / implementation people means system type perspective

Martin Op ‘t Land and Marien Krouwel Change is needed … fast … and in what exactly?  Agility – the ability to change quickly – is vital  Everyone wants agility, but what exactly is changing?  Most literature on change and agility is about The process of change Change drivers (environmental)  Variablity in essence between ‘comparable organizations’ has been researched earlier  Normalized Systems theory adresses IT implementation variables explicitly 8 anticipated types of change Cross-cutting concerns EEWC May 13th, 2013 No list of organization implementation variables currently exists

Martin Op ‘t Land and Marien Krouwel These variables are crucial for the Enterprise Engineer  Traceability in governing transformations Uniform way of working  Generic IT support  To prevent combinatorial effects in the organization itself (Huysmans, van Nuffel) EEWC May 13th, 2013

Martin Op ‘t Land and Marien Krouwel Variables have been found in literature and practical cases  Directed searches for organization implementation (variables) did not yield anything useful  With some fantasy, literature provided 20 variables, incl. a.o. van Oosterhout Sarkis Tsourveloudis Sherehiy COPAFILTH / BIZZdesign Hoogervorst: Framework for Enterprise Engineering  10 variables have been found in the EU-rent case Object Management Group DEMO models v3.5 EEWC May 13th, 2013

Martin Op ‘t Land and Marien Krouwel EU-rent (1) EEWC May 13th, 2013

Martin Op ‘t Land and Marien Krouwel EU rent (2) EEWC May 13th, 2013

Martin Op ‘t Land and Marien Krouwel  For a small amount of money, a student would await the arrival of a rented car, e.g. at an airport, and drive it back to the office of RAC, after which the student would go home by public transport.  Sourcing  X-ref act / employee  Denotation and accuracy (of drop-off location)  Workplace  X-ref act / location  Delegation (as the students do not perform T04/rq)  Competences  IT: information (about drop-off location/time and known car damages) present on mobile device A lot of variables can be present in one sentence only EEWC May 13th, 2013

Martin Op ‘t Land and Marien Krouwel Results (summarized) BusinessInformationData Parties & people Organization structure Employees / sourcing Delegation Competences Departments Functionary types Order of working Workplaces IT and other means Language support Equipment Applications Media Channels Denotation EEWC May 13th, 2013

Martin Op ‘t Land and Marien Krouwel Example benefit EEWC May 13th, 2013 Geo fact- bank Car drop-offs Car pick-ups actor role Car issuer Legend information link functionary type student mechanic Contracts Technical issues Repairer ✗ Variabilty in essence + organization implementation variables + IT variables are the basis for agile IT

Martin Op ‘t Land and Marien Krouwel Future research  repeat the procedure from the EU rent case for real-life observations or procedure descriptions from large organizations  add rigor to each variable found what exactly is its meaning, and why is this variable positioned in a certain EEF- cell  validate with existing IT systems to what extent these variables are explicit, and for the implicit variables, where they hinder organizational flexibility  elaborate a model for coordination and work flows including the assignment of subjects to actor roles or functionary types, the assignment of tasks to subjects, and the prioritizing and scheduling of tasks EEWC May 13th, 2013

Martin Op ‘t Land and Marien Krouwel Our questions to you  What elements do you miss in our list of organization implementation variables?  What improvements can you suggest for our approach? EEWC May 13th, 2013
