3 Appendix A: TAKING ACTION NOW Following each meeting, the Coalition will publicly commit to undertaking 1-2 tangible actions toward achieving the One NS Report goals and game changers Month + ThemeAction Items September 2014: Startup Ecosystems & Driving Youth Entrepreneurship Use collective impact as a foundational model for the work of the Coalition and the change that must take place in Nova Scotia. Foster start-up ecosystems through effective interventions that begin early and continue throughout the lifecycle of a developing entrepreneur. Work to bring Brilliant Labs to Nova Scotia to encourage early development of entrepreneurial skills. Endorse Volta expansion to incubate more start-ups. Encourage multi-sector mobilization to create an Ocean Sciences Innovation Centre in Dartmouth at the former Coast Guard Base. October 2014 Global Competitiveness and Exports Identify our comparative strengths and support cluster development of ‘champion’ industries and sectors to effectively compete on a global scale. Facilitate the development a clear and coordinated economic plan that addresses leading economic sectors and includes the roles of universities, community colleges, industries, and governments Ask the private sector to enhance leadership, serve as champions, become more vocal, provide mentorship, as well as support the 4Front Atlantic recommendations November 2014 Youth and International Student Retention Support and capitalize on the Social Enterprise sector’s ability to engage, train, retrain and attract youth, increase workforce participation of visible minorities and workers of all abilities, and to create economic growth across the province. Bring Social Enterprises and the Private Sector together to determine how social enterprise support can be incorporated into private sector models.
