2 The Thessalonians strongly believed in the return of Jesus However, two errors needed to be corrected Doctrinal error of thinking Jesus’ return was so imminent that the day of Christ had come 2:1-2 Behavioral error of thinking Jesus’ return was so imminent that they quit working 3:11

4 Comfort for your hearts 1:1-12 Greeting 1:1-2 Thanks 1:3-5 – For super-growing faith and abundant love v.3 – Paul boasts about them to others v.4 – Faithful in the face of great persecution v.5 What will happen when Jesus returns 1:6-10 – God will repay the persecutors v.6 – God will provide you rest “with us” v.7 – Fiery, everlasting separation from God v.8-9 – We will admire and glorify Jesus v.10 Prayer 1:11-12

5 Establish you in every good word 2:1-17 The doctrinal error: “the Day of Christ had come” 2:1-2 An apostasy must first occur 2:3-12 – From within the church v.3-4 – In progress but restrained v.5-7 – The man of sin will be exposed by the word of Christ & destroyed when Jesus returns v.8 – The man of sin’s powerful deception v.9-12 Prayer 2:13-17 – Thanks v – Petition v.16-17
