BREAKTHROUGH PROJECT: DISKWENTO CARAVAN 2013 Accomplishments and Inputs to 2014 Implementation

Diskwento Caravan Program 2013 The Good: DTI-CAR posted the highest sales figures for the entire country, with a total of more the P17.74 million reported to HO. Diskwento Caravans were favorably received in several areas, particularly in Benguet (Baguio, Itogon, Kabayan and Kibungan) and Apayao (Luna)

Diskwento Caravan Program 2013 Areas for Improvement: DTI-CAR was only able to implement 20 of the 23 caravans targeted for the year (86.95%). Some Diskwento Caravans did not fare very well because of limited participation from suppliers. Diskwento Proposals were held in abeyance for months because of unclear directives from HO (Budget, allowable cost items). Implementers were unable to track sales of basic necessities and prime commodities only.

Diskwento Caravan Program 2013 Issues to address: The sales figures are looked upon with some suspicion How did CAR come up with such a large sales figure? Criticisms/false impressions from some individuals/observers Implementers were unable to track sales of basic necessities and prime commodities only.

Diskwento Program 2014 Diskwento considered as a breakthrough project for the calendar year National target: 100 Diskwento Caravans implemented P100 Million in sales CAR Target: 5 Caravans @ P1 Million/Diskwento

Diskwento Program 2014 Guidelines (as per DTI-Wide Planning) Sales shall focus primarily on basic necessities & prime commodities At least ten suppliers are required to participate Sales reported shall be for basic necessities & prime commodities only No implementation during the month of December Units should devote some time explaining the Caravan’s objectives to the public
