2 Issue- Reducing Power Theft for better Demand Side Management

3 Negative effects of Power Theft i) Increasing electricity bill more than earlier ii) Due to low voltage and power cut in the evening (Peak Hours), many instruments used in the distribution network/line are damaged, as well as household electronics gadgets and agriculture pump sets are also damaged. iii) Excessive use of Fossil fuel like Coal and Diesel.

4 Objectives To reduce power theft by: i) Capacity building of stakeholders ii) Advocacy with relevant stakeholders

5 Methodology i) Secondary literature and review. ii) Primary data collection. iii) Analysis and identification of advocacy issues. iv) Advocating with target stakeholder.

6 Identified Stakeholder i) Station Manager ii) RGRO iii) PRI Functionary iv) BDO v) MLA vi) Local Police Station vii) Media viii) Community People

7 Action Plan i) Primary data collection. ii) Joint meeting with stake holder and media. iii) Awareness through street play. iv) Public rally with involvement of SHGs, ICDS, ASHAs workers and Students.

8 Findings (from primary data collection) i) Many consumers applied for new connection but not yet got connection for that reason they used power illegal way. ii) Some people are thinking that Electricity is their birth right and they don’t have to pay for it iii) Some influential stakeholders are supporting such malpractices for e.g.- political leaders and middleman.

9 Message To prevent theft for better quality of electricity and improvement of power sector.

11 Monitoring and Evaluation i) Individual communication with stake holder. ii) Follow up meeting with target groups. iii) Feedback assessment among community members. iv) Tally the data pre and post assessment. v) Evaluation of the progress of work vis-a-vis objectives. vi) Documentation.
