1. Anterior muscles a. Superficial 1. Flexor carpii radialis flexes and abducts wrist a. Originates from medial epicondyle of humerus b. Inserts at 2 and metacarpals

3 2. Flexor carpi ulnaris- flexes and adducts wrist
a. Originates from medial epicondyle of humerus and upper posterior border of the ulna b. Inserts at the pisiform, hamate, and 5th metacarpal

5 3. Flexor digitorum. superficialis- flexes middle
3. Flexor digitorum superficialis- flexes middle phalanges of each finger a. Origin is medial epicondyle of humerus coronoid process and lateral margin of anterior of radius b. Inserts at middle phalanges

7 b. Deep muscles 1. Flexor pollicis longus- flexes thumb a. Originates from anterior surface of radius and interosseous membrane (holds radius and ulna together) b. Inserts at base of distal phalanx of thumb

9 2. Posterior group a. Superficial 1. Extensor carpi radialis longus and brevi- extend and abduct wrist a. Origin is lateral epicondyle of humerus b. Inserts at 2 and metacarpal 2. Extensor digitorum- extends phalanges b. Insert at 2-5 distal and middle phalanges c. Little finger separately controlled

11 b. Deep 1. Extensor pollicis brevis and longus- extend thumb and abduct wrist a. Originate form posterior surface of radius ( brevis) and ulna (longus) b. Insert at bases of proximal (brevis) and distal (longus) phalanx of the thumb
