2 United States Power Squadrons ® BS 98 01-12-1 - B 97 08-02 Before Fueling  Fuel in daylight when possible  Tie boat securely to dock  Put out all flames; no smoking  Shut off engines/electrical equipment  Close doors, hatches, portholes  Have fire extinguisher close at hand  Have all passengers leave the boat

4 United States Power Squadrons ® BS 98 01-12-4 - B 97 08-04 After Fueling  Close filler pipe opening  Wipe up any spillage - leave wipers on shore  Open all portholes, doors, hatches  Check fuel lines, tanks, and filters for leaks  Turn on bilge blower, if so equipped  Sniff bilge for vapors - run blower until you are sure there are no fumes
