ISSUES Verbal abuse “Many people, when informed about the no smoking policy at the hospital are happy to move on or extinguish their cigarette and understand the reasons behind the policy” ”During my 4 months as a Smoking Warden at Glasgow Royal Infirmary only around 5% of the people who visit or attend the hospital direct any verbal abuse to us whilst carrying out our duties”

14. RESULTS SO FAR Positive feedback from site managers - “There has been an improvement in smokers congregating outside entrances. As the patients and visitors change on a regular basis smoking at entrances will revert to previous levels if not policed” “Campaign has worked noticeably where we have the hatching and posters on the doors. Wardens have helped but the two in tandem have produced the best results”

15. RESULTS SO FAR Reduction in complaints received about smoking June 2013 – Feb 2014 57 complaints with 5 for smoking – 8.77% of all complaints June 2012 – Feb 2013 62 complaints with 17 for smoking – 24.2% of all complaints

16. RESULTS SO FAR Increase in NRT used within hospitals July 2013 – 10,135 July 2012 – 6,417 Reduction in smoking at main entrances (counting smokers)
