2 Compare the skills in the job description with the skills of the employee. Employees could be asked where they feel their performance could be improved. There are different levels of training Organisational level Departmental level Individual level Meet the company aims and goals Could come from appraisals From personal statistics

3 There are three main types of training Is used to help NEW employees settle into the job quickly. Involve the worker being trained whilst carrying out their job. Takes place where employee attend courses

4 Used to avoid INDUCTION CRISIS Not usually specific to the job but the way in which the business works. The organisation Personnel policies Terms of Employment Employee benefits & services Physical facilities The role and work of the supervisor Departmental rules and safety Relationship of the job with others Introduction to fellow workers General nature of the job

5 Defn: Training workers in the workplace whilst they are working ADVANTAGES Employees using the equipment in the workplace. No travel costs or course fees. Trainee will do some work whilst training. DISADVANTAGES Trainee will not be as productive. Trainer might teach bad habits. Trainer may have their own job to do.

6 Sitting next to ‘Nellie’ Coaching Mentoring Job Rotation Apprenticeships Many of these require a single tutor to work with an employee. The quality of training depends on the ability and willingness and available time

7 Defn: Employees being trained away from the workplace, usually by specialist trainers. ADVANTAGES Specialist trainer Employees may be more motivated as they are not at work Don’t pick up bad habits DISADVANTAGES May not use the same equipment Not producing anything More expensive ( course fees and travel costs)
