16.90 Surah Nahl Code of conduct Three basic do’s and Three basic don'ts. Fundamental duties and Fundamental Prohibitions. Comprehensive mandate of life. Usually incorporated in Friday sermons.

God commands Justice The doing of good and Liberality to kith and kin and He forbids all shameful deeds & injustice and rebellion

Adl envisages 'masaawaat' that is equality. Quran calls for equanimity, proportion and large-heartedness even while dealing with injustice. Also, adl provides for an element of 'tarbiyat' or training mechanism for upgrading the defaulter's level of morality. And, it includes voluntary social service towards improving the level of public morality.

'Ehsaan' means favour and kindness It has to be appreciated in conjunction with 'adl' or justice. If Adl visualises equity while meting out justice, Ehsaan means Milder revenge or punishment for evil. Contrarily, a good deed should be compensated with a better deed.

The famous Quranic commentator Abdullah Yousufali says: Justice may include the virtues of cold philosophy but religion asks for something warmer and more human: the doing of good deeds even when perhaps they are not strictly demanded by justice. Such as, returning good for ill, or obliging those who in worldly language have no claim on you. And of course, the fulfilling of the claims of those whose claims are recognised in social life.

Similarly, The opposites are to be avoided. Everything that is recognised as shameful and everything that is really unjust and any inward rebellion against God's law or our own conscience in its most sensitive form.

At the higher spiritual plain Adl signifies Oneness of God and Ehsaan demands the human being to worship God imagining that He is seeing the devotee

3 rd positive prescription To provide material support to the needy kith and kin

Fastabiqul khairaat 5.48 Vie with one another in good deeds
