17 A reading from the holy Gospel according to St. Matthew
A reading from the holy Gospel according to St. Matthew. (Matthew 2: 1-12) Glory to you, O Lord.

18 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem in the days of King Herod, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, "Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the East, and have come to worship him." When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and asked his advisers where the Christ was to be born. They told him, "In Bethlehem.” Then Herod called the wise men secretly and sent them to Bethlehem, saying, "Go and search for the child, and when you have found him tell me, that I too may come and worship him." When they had heard the king they went their way; and the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came to rest over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they felt great joy; and going into the stable they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshipped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they went to their own country by another way.

19 The Gospel of the Lord Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

20 Intercessions The response is: Hear our prayer. 20

21 For the Church, to whom a promise has been given; May we be a light for all the nations showing God to the world. Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

22 For the world upon whom light has come; May places overshadowed by war and devastation - especially the Philippines - be raised up and shine, radiant with peace. Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

23 For those far from home; scattered throughout the world: May they continue to walk by the light of Christ and find the star that will lead them safely home. Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer

24 For this new year filled with expectation; For all who hope in God’s promise: May this year be filled with God’s grace and light, especially for those covered by the clouds of homelessness, depression, disease, loneliness, and unemployment. Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer

25 For those who have died this year whom we have missed during this Christmas season, May the glory of the Lord shine upon them and gather us all into the arms of God. Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer

26 We pray the Hail Mary.

27 Away in a manger, No crib for His bed The little Lord Jesus Laid down His sweet head
The stars in the bright sky Looked down where He lay The little Lord Jesus Asleep on the hay.

28 The cattle are lowing The poor Baby wakes But little Lord Jesus No crying He makes
I love Thee, Lord Jesus Look down from the sky And stay by my side, 'Til morning is nigh.

29 Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay Close by me forever And love me I pray
Bless all the dear children In Thy tender care And take us to heaven To live with Thee there.
