2What is SRQ?It is a new component that will replace the functional writing in paper 1.The stimulus will be taken from the newspapers, magazines or journalsDuration: 45 minutes
3What is SRQ?SRQ requires the student to identify the purpose of the writer and to identify his supporting arguments which the students are to evaluate for their effectiveness and persuasiveness.
4Using Paul’s Wheel of Reasoning Use Paul’s Wheel of Reasoning to guide you to read the article critically.This is an important step that you must take before you embark on writing your SRQ.
5SRQ: Step-by-StepWrite an introduction that sums up the purpose of the article3 body paragraphs using the same structureArgument (A) – identify the writer’s argumentEvaluate (EV)– Evaluate the strength/weakness of the writer’sargumentExplanation (EX)–Explain (in detail) why you agree or disagreewith the writer’s argumentExample (E.g.) – Cite an example to clarify or affirm yourexplanationConclude by summing up why you agree or disagree with the writer’s views.
