Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme Emergency First Aid
► You may never have to use it ► It may make the difference between life and death for someone injured ► D of E regulations say that you must be prepared!
Someone’s hurt – What do you do? ► Check for danger Fallen tree Stranger danger Electric wires Snakes, horses, cows Roads ► If there’s danger – two of you go and get help
Someone’s hurt – What do you do? ► No danger – look for response Ask them who they are, how long they’ve been there etc ► If no response – check the airway, tilt their head back ► Check for breathing ► Meanwhile rest of group has checked where you are and are ready to get help ► Send for help now
Someone’s hurt – What do you do? ► They are not breathing – CPR Tilt back head Pinch nose and give 2 full breaths Push down on chest 30 times Repeat until help arrives or person starts breathing Work as a team
Someone’s hurt – What do you do? ► Recovery position ► Work together to put the person into the correct position ► Keep them warm and calm
