1 Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme Emergency First Aid

2 ► You may never have to use it ► It may make the difference between life and death for someone injured ► D of E regulations say that you must be prepared!

3 Someone’s hurt – What do you do? ► Check for danger  Fallen tree  Stranger danger  Electric wires  Snakes, horses, cows  Roads ► If there’s danger – two of you go and get help

4 Someone’s hurt – What do you do? ► No danger – look for response  Ask them who they are, how long they’ve been there etc ► If no response – check the airway, tilt their head back ► Check for breathing ► Meanwhile rest of group has checked where you are and are ready to get help ► Send for help now

5 Someone’s hurt – What do you do? ► They are not breathing – CPR  Tilt back head  Pinch nose and give 2 full breaths  Push down on chest 30 times  Repeat until help arrives or person starts breathing  Work as a team

6 Someone’s hurt – What do you do? ► Recovery position ► Work together to put the person into the correct position ► Keep them warm and calm
