Maryland Science Content Standard Based on data from readings and designed investigations, cite evidence to illustrate that the life functions of multicellular organisms (plant and animal) are carried out within complex systems of different tissues, organs and cells. –Extracting energy from food –Getting rid of wastes –Making raw materials
Objective Students will review materials relating to a real world concept exploring growth and development as well as reproduction Title: Making Connections Date:5/5/2015
Connecting the Concepts Making the connection –The goal of the graphic organizer was to make connections between: Organelles Needs of living things Properties of living things Cellular processes
Big Picture Analogy: –Dot to dot picture without numbers is a random set of dots, nothing more. –Random facts without making the connection is also meaningless….can not relate to real world concepts Draw the lines: –Create the meaning MAKE THE BIG PICTURE APPEAR
As a Class…… On the paper in the front of the class, add words, pictures or connections that will allow you to see the “Big Picture”. Add to the paper each time you are given a marker You can add organelles, properties of living things, needs of living things and cellular processes that relate to the growth of a tree
What Does the Paper Look Like? Lots of overlapping lines Concepts that can fit in more than one place Read over your BCR to see how you could make more of a connection between concepts.
Next Steps….. How does cell division fit into this scenario? –Growth and Development
