Starting the new year with DelftTech DelftTech will keep you updated this coming year with four newsletters to provide you with “up to date” information about our products, services, new software developments, innovations and projects. In 2009 DelftTech will be pleased to keep on offering the best prices. If you have a question about services and products provided by DelftTech please contact us info@DelftTech.com 01 FEBRUARY 2009 ISSUE QUARTAL JOURNAL OF DELFTTECH DelftTech Newsletter This issue Murder Investigation William of Orange P.1 Laser scanning in petrochemical industry P.2 Situational Awareness with Interseco P.3 Full Coloured 3D Laserscanning P.4 Murder Investigation William of Orange In September 2008, DelftTech and the Prinsenhof ("The Court of the Prince") in Delft started a murder investigation to reconstruct the murder of William of Orange, also known as William the silent.DelftWilliam of Orange The Prinsenhof, nowadays a municipal museum, served as a residence for the Prince. William was murdered there in 1584 and the bullet holes are still clearly visible. DelftTech has multiple field experiences in using 3D laser scanning for archiving crime scenes, 3D reconstruction of bullet trajectories, and 3D bloodstain pattern analysis. DelftTech can visualize this into 3D, 4D (3D + time) and it is possible to make the data interactive (VR), for example for 3D forensic training programs for i.e. crime scene management, serious gaming, mass events, terrorist attacks, calamities and 3D witness verification. The forensic investigation of the crime scene in close cooperation with the police force Zeeland includes all possible methods and techniques like ballistics. The police of Middle and West Brabant searched the crime scene for any remaining blood stains. Luminol is used by forensic investigators to detect traces of blood left at crime scenes as it reacts with iron found in hemoglobin. With the DelftForensics 3D Blood Stain Pattern Analyses Software one is able to find the origin of the victim’s body. This is a very useful tool for 3D reconstruction. In conjunction with architectonical historians a 3D laser scan of the crime scene will determine the exact space of the crime scene in 1584. Even the weapon will be reconstructed and tested for ballistic research.forensicbloodcrime scenes The investigation will result in a 3D reconstruction where all the outcomes of the investigation will be combined.
Laser scanning in Petrochemical Industry 1 St European workshop on terrestrial 3D lasers scanning 2008 DelftTech participated in the European Leonardo da Vinci Project. The ‘1st European workshop on terrestrial 3D lasers scanning 2008', an initiative of the 3D Risk Mapping was organized in Gent, Belgium on September 4, 2008. The workshop was organized to present the book 3D Risk Mapping, Theory and practice on Terrestrial Laser Scanning, The first complete book about the basics off laser scanning The project has been co-financed the European Leonardo Da Vinci program. DelftTech participated writing the book in cooperation with a multidisciplinary group of experts from universities and industries in Europe. For any further information: www.3driskmapping.org One of the mayor area’s of work for DelftTech is the Process Industry Nowadays, laser scanning is a proven technology in this industry to acquire geometric data quickly and precise. It captures pointclouds that can be translated semi- automatically into CAD models. Within days huge amounts of data can be gathered. This makes laser scanning the perfect solution for as-built information acquisition. In the process industry, plant shutdown time is mandatory when optimizing the process for maintenance or expansion purposes. If a shutdown is necessary, it is done in a very tight schedule, leaving little room for errors. DelftTech can facilitate with reducing plant shutdown time by scanning the area beforehand (without a shutdown needed) and draw up the necessary details, giving the engineers a chance to counter problems beforehand. For optimal results, DelftTech is able to process vast amounts of data in a very short period, helping engineers in various ways. Our employees are experienced in converting data into solid models, which can be used in Piping Software, check new designs against current plant data (clash detection), or get a better understanding of “empty space”. 3D laser scan data can also be fused with picture information and X-ray data for inspection purposes. Some of our clients only use the raw scan data, to overlay with their current CAD drawings. Here is a short list of beneficiary aspects of 3D laser scanning for the process industry: - Minimize shutdown periods - Minimize offshore activities - Real “as-built” reproduction - Integration in Piping Software - Detailed models for meaningful and constructible design and i nspection purposes -Cost effective -Safe
Safety & Security Situational awareness with Interseco DelftTech have signed a collaboration agreement with security company Interseco Better security and situational awareness can be obtained by implementing 3D technology to detect security issues. 3D visualization allows better mapping of the effect of a security measure and it enables more precise action in the case of incidents, furthermore incidents can be better reconstructed in retrospect. DelftTech uses 3D laser scanning technology and PointForce software with 360 degree pictures to visualize business and housing areas in more detail. The vulnerability of certain buildings can be displayed in 3D easily. 3D Simulations of shocking events such as taking hostages, bombings or large-scale evictions is used for counter- actions, planning, preparing and training. Innovative Security Software DelftTech developed in cooperation with Interseco innovative software applications for security issues. Therefore DelftTech had developed extra tools for the existing PointForce software. PointForce Software not only makes it possible to visualize buildings and the environment in 3D, it also allows you to view from the outside of a building to the inside and vice versa. It helps you determine what’s the best spot to suspend your cameras and to show what you can expect from the camera viewpoint. Also escape routes in buildings can be analyzed and visualized in 3D movies. Shortly, 3D-technology can make your building safe and secure! Visual Sensor Fusion (VSF) software is capable of fusing different kinds of sensors in a visual manner, i.e. VSF makes it possible to combine 3D and 2D images (objects, drawings, pictures) from different sensors. VSF can be used to measure a suspect on a surveillance camera image with reference of a 3D scan of the environment. 2D Data that couldn’t be measured before, can now be used with help of 3D scans. Depending on the modules you purchase there is a variety of functions possible. Visual Sensor Fusion Software (PointForce, 3DSM, 3DBPA)

The panoramic pictures are registered with the point cloud system coordinates. After the registration, the pixel colors are extracted from the image and fused in the point cloud. Without any further modeling processes an “as-built” (metric) true colored environment has been built. This environment can be used for Interactive visualization purposes to create virtual reality environments e.g. PointForce Basic, a DelftTech development, can be used to view and navigate within full coloured scans. PointForce Basic is a high-performance point cloud and model viewing/measurement application that is perfect for realtime data visualization. PointForce’s 3D engine has been built to deliver high performance when handling even the largest laserscan datasets or 3D textured models. Additional plug-ins are the camera positioning viewer, pano match and pointcloud animation.
