Speak precisely about your salvation in Christ St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, September 7th
Welcome to St. Peter! Some will be saved and some will be damned. As the love of Christ flows out of us and speaks, we are compelled to speak precisely about our salvation through Christ since the door to heaven is narrow. We’re elated that you have joined us for worship!
Welcome to St. Peter! There are friendship registers at the end of each row of chairs. Please take a moment to give us your information so that we have a record of your time with us today. Thank you!
For Our Guests If you have questions, let us try to help. Speak with an usher, greeter, or the person next to you. If you’d like to learn more about St. Peter and its ministry, please talk to a pastor or member after the service.

Please be courteous and silence all pagers and cell phones. Thank you
OUR COMMUNION PRACTICE In the Sacrament of Holy Communion, we express unity with our Savior and those who share our faith and stand on the teachings of God’s Word. Speak precisely about your salvation in Christ St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, September 7th
Pastor: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. All: And also with you. Opening Verses
Preach You the Word CW #544 Verses 1- 2 Text: Martin H. Franzmann, 1907-76 Setting: O HEILAND, REISS DIE HIMMEL AUF Tune: Rheinfelssisch Deutsches Catholisches Gesangbuch, Augsburg, 1666
Verse 1: Preach you the Word and plant it home To those who like or like it not, The Word that shall endure and stand When flow’rs and mortals are forgot
Verse 2: We know how hard, O Lord, the task Your servant bids us under take: To preach your Word and never ask What prideful profit it may make
Pastor: It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.” All: With that same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak.
Pastor: Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage All: with great patience and careful instruction.
Verse 3: The sower sows; his reckless love Scatters a broad the goodly seed, Intent alone that there may be The whole-some loaves that people need.
Verse 4: Though some be snatched and some be scorched And some be choked and matted flat, The sower sows; his heart cries out, “Oh what of that, and what of that?”
Pastor: Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations. All: “Ah, Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am only a child.”
Pastor: But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am only a child.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord. All: Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “Now, I have put my words in your mouth. See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.”
Verse 5: Preach you the Word and plant it home And never faint; the Harvest-Lord Who gave the sower seed to sow Will watch and tend his planted Word.
Confession of Sin Pastor: God invites us to come into his presence and worship him with humble and penitent hearts. Therefore, let us acknowledge our sinfulness and ask him to forgive us.
Confession of Sin All:Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful and that I have disobeyed you in my thoughts, words and actions. I have done what is evil and failed to do what is good. For this I deserve your punishment both now and in eternity.
Confession of Sin All: But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior Jesus Christ I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.
SECOND LESSON Romans 9:1-9 Love can not help but speak
Verse of the Day Alleluia. Jesus Christ has destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. Alleluia. (1 Timothy 1:10b)
GOSPEL Luke 13:22-30 Love speaks with precision about the Narrow Door
You Are the Way; through You Alone CW #356 Verses 1-4 Text: George W. Doane, 1799-1859 Setting: DUNDEE Tune: The CL Psalms of David, Edinburgh, 1615
Verse 1: You are the way; through you alone Can we the Father find; In you, O Christ, has God revealed His heart and will and mind.
Verse 2: You are the truth; you Word alone True wisdom can impart. You only can inform the mind And purify the heart.
Verse 3: You are the life; the empty tomb Proclaims your conqu'ring arm, And those who put their trust in you Not death nor hell shall harm.
Verse 4 (Please Stand): You are the way, the truth, the life; Grant us that way to know, That truth to keep, that life to win Whose joys eternal flow.
LOVE SPEAKS PRECISELY: “Enter Through The Narrow Door!” The confusion is great The door is narrow
In thankfulness for our salvation, we support God’s work with our offerings.
Prayer of the Church Pastor: Dear Father in heaven, with your gift of a Savior you restored hope for our fallen world and brought glory to your name. We thank you for the good news that you have reconciled the world to yourself through your Son. All:Be with us as you give us opportunities to proclaim your glorious name of salvation in Jesus Christ our Savior.
Prayer of the Church Pastor:O Jesus, Lamb of God, we praise you for offering yourself as the atoning sacrifice for the sins of all. On the cross you declared the sacrifice for sins completed. At the open tomb, you assured the world that sinners are reconciled to God. All:Be with us as you have promised, so that we may be bold and confident witnesses to our family members and friends.
Prayer of the Church Pastor: Holy Spirit, blessed Counselor, use your Word of Truth and power to break down the barriers to our witness, including fallen mankind’s natural hatred for God and Satan’s wicked work among us. All:Empower us by your gospel, and encourage us to speak precisely as we witness to the people among whom we live and work. Special prayers may follow.
Prayer of the Church Pastor: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, send us by the power of your Word into the mission fields beyond the walls of our church. Give us hearing ears and seeing eyes that seize the opportunities you set before us to be your witnesses. All:Guide us, strengthen us, and bless us as we declare Christ to our world. Amen.
The Sacrament Pastor: We gather to celebrate Christ’s sacrifice for us: All: He offers us new life. Pastor: We gather to celebrate Christ’s victory over temptation: All: He offers us new strength.
The Sacrament Pastor: We gather to celebrate his blood poured out for our sins: All: He offers us true forgiveness. Pastor: We gather to celebrate his body broken for us: All: He offers us true healing.
Verse 11: Your body, giv'n for me, O Savior, Your blood, which you for me have shed-- These are my life and strength forever; By them my hungry soul is fed.
Words of Institution Pastor: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night he was betrayed, took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
Words of Institution Pastor: Then he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
Pastor: The peace of the Lord be with you always. All: Amen.
Verse 3: Come forward, then, with faithful hearts sincere, And take the pledges of salvation here. Before your altar, Lord, your servants bow; In this your feast of love be with us now.
Thanksgiving Pastor: O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. All: And his mercy endures forever.
Pastor: We give thanks, almighty God, that you have refreshed us with this holy supper. We praythat through it you will strengthen our faith in you and increase our love for one another. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. All: Amen.
God’s Blessing Pastor: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look on you with favor and X give you peace. All: Amen.
